They tried everything for twelve years. nothing worked.
The boy, his name was Daksha, was still the same.
After twelve years of effort, even Vallabha got fed up.
He sent both the mother and son away.
They started begging on the streets in distant places.
One day as they were begging a noble person passed nearby.
The wind that had touched his body also touched Daksha.
The boy was cured in an instant.
All these happened in a moment.
By that time, the noble person had disappeared.
Daksha wanted to somehow know who it was.
He knew that it was divine providence that cured him and he should find out who that noble person was.
He started observing tapas to propitiate Lord Ganesha.
Lord Ganesha was the kuladevata of their vamsha.
He did tapas standing on one thumb, without eating anything and constantly chanting Ganesha mantra.
The Lord became pleased and appeared before him.
Told him that it was Mudgala Maharashi who had cured him.
Mudgala maharshi was a great devotee of Ganesha.
Once it became known who the noble person was it was easy to get to his ashrama.
Daksha told Mudgala Maharshi how he got the darshana of Lord Ganesha.
Mudgala gave Daksha upadesha of the ekakshara mantra गम् of Lord Ganesha.
Daksha started worshiping the Lord with that mantra.
That worship made Daksha the king of Vidarbha.
It is interesting to know how the events unfolded.
The king of Vidarbha then, did not have children.
He handed over the administration of the kingdom to his ministers and went to the forest to observe tapas along with his queen.
He died there.
The king had left no instruction about who should succeed him.
The ministers sought Mudgala Maharshi's advice.
Maharshi gave them a solution.
The king had a big elephant.
Give him a garland made of lotus and allow him to roam around freely.
Whoever on whose neck the elephant would put the garland will become the king.
As the elephant started roaming around, people vied with each other to get his attention.
But, the elephant went straight to the place where Daksha was sitting and worshiping Lord Ganesha and put the garland on his neck.
Thus with the blessings of Lord Ganesha Daksha became the king of Vidarbha.
A clear example of how Lord Ganesha blesses those who pray to him.
