The Power of Ganesha Shadakshara Mantra

You must be familiar with the story of Ahalya from the Ramayana. Ahalya was Sage Gautama's wife. Once, when Gautama was away, Indra came disguised as Gautama, defrauded Ahalya, and had a physical relationship with her. When Gautama found out, he cursed them both. Ahalya was turned into a stone. Sri Ram Ji absolved her and gave her body back to her.

But what happened to Indra? Gautama cursed Indra, and he lost his reproductive organs. To brand him for his offense, Gautama made female genitals appear all over Indra's body. It was so humiliating and embarrassing. Just imagine the most powerful King of Gods moving around with female genitals all over his body, revealing to the whole world the heinous sin that he committed.

Then the rest of the Devas went to Gautama and pleaded with him. It is true that what Indra did was unpardonable, but Indra has also done many good things. They pleaded with Gautama to pardon him. Gautama said, "I can't withdraw the curse, but I will give you a solution. There is a mantra of Lord Ganesha with six syllables. It is called the Shadakshara Mantra. It is वक्रतुण्डाय हुम्. Let him chant this mantra. Only Lord Ganesha can give him relief."

Accordingly, Indra started chanting the mantra. Lord Ganesha appeared before him, and Indra begged for mercy. The Lord turned the female genitals that were all over Indra's body into eyes.
