Do you celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi, also known as Ganesh Utsav?
We are going to discuss several very important aspects of Vinayaka Chaturthi puja in the upcoming episodes.
Ganesha Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated with a puja called Parthiv Ganesh Puja.
Why is it called Parthiv Ganesh Puja?
Prithvi means earth, clay.
Parthiv means made of clay.
The idol used in Vinayaka Chaturthi puja is made of clay.
In fact, Veda says the earth came into existence from clay only.
Originally it was all clay; then it solidified into the earth.
When is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated?
It is on the Shukla paksha Chaturthi of the Lunar month, Bhadrapada.
These days people make idols out of Plaster of Paris or such other man-made materials.
According to Ganesha Purana, it must only be clay.
An idol made out of clay must be used for Parthiv Ganesh Puja during Chaturthi, not anything else.
Goddess Parvathy had performed Parthiv Ganesh Puja.
Did you know that?
Mother worshiping the son.
Mahadeva destroyed the Tripuaras with the blessing of Lord Ganesha.
Mahadeva was fighting the Tripurasuras.
Devi Parvathy was hiding in a cave because the Tripurasuras had come to abduct her.
Devi became worried.
Why is he not coming back?
Is something wrong?
She kept on crying.
A hunter saw this.
He went and told Himavan, Devi's father.
There is a beautiful woman in the forest and she is crying.
Himavan went there.
He realized that it was his own daughter.
He took her home and told her.
You are the all-powerful shakti.
You are omnipresent.
How can you ever be separated from your husband?
Still, if you think that you must see him physically, you worship Lord Ganesha.
That's what everyone does.
Even Brahma, Vishnu, and your own husband Shiva, all of them do this.
Praying to Lord Ganesha is the fastest and most effective way to achieve any specific wish.
You want to achieve something and you are not able to.
What does it mean?
There is some obstacle in between.
A wish will come into your mind only if you deserve it.
There are 130 crores of people in India.
Does everyone want to become the Prime Minister?
This wish will only come to the minds of a select few.
Each of them would be a worthy candidate for this position.
But they may also have deficiencies that they must overcome.
It requires effort on their part.
They have to work by forming strategies.
If you have everything but still can't achieve your goal; then there must be some obstacle that only Lord Ganesha can remove.
You will be able to reach your goal when Vighnaharta removes that obstacle.
That's his blessing.
What kind of clay should be used for making the idol?
Clean clay from a good place.
There should not be sand or stones in it.
They should be removed.
The clay should be sticky enough to hold together.
Never use soil from a termite mound to make idols for Parthiv Ganesh Puja.
Immersion of the idol is also very important.
Why is the immersion of Ganesha idol performed?
Immersion is called Visarjan in Sanskrit.
Any temporary idol made for worship should be immersed in water, not just Ganesha idols.
Veda says that everything has originated from water.
If you immerse the idol in water, you are reuniting it with its source.
Even if you pray to the Lord to go back to his abode after the puja, there will still be some chaitanya left in the idol.
Idols shouldn't become impure.
When you immerse it in water, even that chaitanya dissolves.
So, always use clay idols for Vinayaka Chaturthy Puja.
Always perform immersion of the idol after the puja.
You should not keep the idol for using it in the next year.
