Lalita Panchakam

प्रातः स्मरामि ललितावदनारविन्दं
बिम्बाधरं पृथुलमौक्तिकशोभिनासम्।
आकर्णदीर्घनयनं मणिकुण्डलाढ्यं
मन्दस्मितं मृगमदोज्ज्वलफालदेशम्।
प्रातर्भजामि ललिताभुजकल्पवल्लीं
रक्ताङ्गुलीयलसदङ्गुलिपल्लवाढ्याम्।
माणिक्यहेमवलयाङ्गदशोभमानां
पुण्ड्रेक्षुचापकुसुमेषुसृणीर्दधानाम्।
प्रातर्नमामि ललिताचरणारविन्दं
भक्तेष्टदाननिरतं भवसिन्धुपोतम्।
पद्मासनादिसुरनायकपूजनीयं
पद्माङ्कुशध्वजसुदर्शनलाञ्छनाढ्यम्।
प्रातः स्तुवे परशिवां ललितां भवानीं
त्रय्यङ्गवेद्यविभवां करुणानवद्याम्।
विश्वस्य सृष्टिविलयस्थितिहेतुभूतां
विद्येश्वरीं निगमवाङ्मनसातिदूराम्।
प्रातर्वदामि ललिते तव पुण्यनाम
कामेश्वरीति कमलेति महेश्वरीति।
श्रीशाम्भवीति जगतां जननी परेति
वाग्देवतेति वचसा त्रिपुरेश्वरीति।
यः श्लोकपञ्चकमिदं ललिताम्बिकायाः
सौभाग्यदं सुललितं पठति प्रभाते।
तस्मै ददाति ललिता झटिति प्रसन्ना
विद्यां श्रियं विमलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्तिम्।

 

 


Verse 1

प्रातः स्मरामि ललितावदनारविन्दं
At dawn, I remember the lotus-face of Lalita.

Her face blooms like a freshly awakened lotus, soft yet radiant, carrying the freshness of divine dawn.

बिम्बाधरं पृथुलमौक्तिकशोभिनासम्।
Her lips glow like red bimba fruit, her nose shines adorned with pearls.

Her smile is nectar itself, lips red as ripened fruit, and a gentle pearl adorning her nose flashes like moonlight upon the ocean of beauty.

आकर्णदीर्घनयनं मणिकुण्डलाढ्यं
Eyes stretching till the ears, decorated with gem-studded earrings.

Her gaze is vast, endless, reaching to the soul, and her earrings glitter like stars on the horizon of her cheeks.

मन्दस्मितं मृगमदोज्ज्वलफालदेशम्।
She glows with a gentle smile, forehead marked with deer-musk.

That tender smile melts away the hardest knots of the heart, while her musk-marked forehead shines like the crescent moon, cooling the burning samsara.


Verse 2

प्रातर्भजामि ललिताभुजकल्पवल्लीं
In the morning, I worship her arms like wish-fulfilling vines.

Her arms are not just limbs — they are kalpavriksha creepers, granting the deepest desires of those who surrender.

रक्ताङ्गुलीयलसदङ्गुलिपल्लवाढ्याम्।
Adorned with red rings, glowing upon tender fingers like buds.

Every finger of hers is a budding lotus, jeweled with rings that radiate compassion and power.

माणिक्यहेमवलयाङ्गदशोभमानां
Resplendent with ruby and golden bangles.

Her bangles are not ornaments — they are the very rhythm of creation’s heartbeat.

पुण्ड्रेक्षुचापकुसुमेषुसृणीर्दधानाम्।
She carries sugarcane bow, flower-arrows, noose, and goad.

With these, she plays: binding devotees with love, prodding them toward wisdom, piercing their delusion with flower-arrows, and guiding them toward liberation.


Verse 3

प्रातर्नमामि ललिताचरणारविन्दं
At dawn, I bow to Lalita’s lotus-feet.

Those feet are boats that carry across the stormy ocean of samsara.

भक्तेष्टदाननिरतं भवसिन्धुपोतम्।
Always engaged in giving devotees what they long for, savior-ship across the world’s ocean.

Her grace is tireless — she gives, again and again, never withholding, never tiring, her feet the raft for the drowning soul.

पद्मासनादिसुरनायकपूजनीयं
Worshipped even by Brahma on the lotus-seat and all deva-leaders.

Gods bow to her feet — what then of mortals?

पद्माङ्कुशध्वजसुदर्शनलाञ्छनाढ्यम्।
Stamped with lotus, goad, banner, and chakra marks.

Even her soles bear divine symbols — signs that creation, protection, and dissolution rest upon her very steps.


Verse 4

प्रातः स्तुवे परशिवां ललितां भवानीं
In the morning, I praise Lalita, who is Para-Shiva, who is Bhavani.

She is not merely consort, she is the very power, the very essence of Shiva — inseparable, one flame in two forms.

त्रय्यङ्गवेद्यविभवां करुणानवद्याम्।
Knowable only through the Vedas, flawless in compassion.

She is the secret hidden in Vedic limbs, beyond grasp of intellect, yet perfectly approachable through surrender and compassion.

विश्वस्य सृष्टिविलयस्थितिहेतुभूतां
The cause of creation, sustenance, and dissolution of the universe.

She is the pulse of existence itself, weaving time’s fabric with a glance.

विद्येश्वरीं निगमवाङ्मनसातिदूराम्।
The Goddess of all knowledge, beyond words, scriptures, and mind.

She is the mother of Saraswati, yet beyond speech. She is the inspiration of the Vedas, yet untouched by them.


Verse 5

प्रातर्वदामि ललिते तव पुण्यनाम
At dawn, I utter your holy names, O Lalita.

To speak her names is to drink amrita.

कामेश्वरीति कमलेति महेश्वरीति।
You are Kameshwari, Kamala, Maheshwari.

Kameshwari — mistress of love and desire’s pure form. Kamala — the lotus of fortune and beauty. Maheshwari — supreme power of the great lord.

श्रीशाम्भवीति जगतां जननी परेति
Shambhavi, Mother of the world, Supreme.

She is Shambhavi — Shankara’s own breath. She is Jagat-janani — the womb of all beings. She is Para — the transcendent, ungraspable.

वाग्देवतेति वचसा त्रिपुरेश्वरीति।
She is Vagdevata, the Goddess of speech, Tripureshwari.

Every word uttered owes itself to her. She is the sovereign of the three worlds, Tripura Sundari.


Phala Shruti

यः श्लोकपञ्चकमिदं ललिताम्बिकायाः
He who recites these five verses of Lalita Ambika...

सौभाग्यदं सुललितं पठति प्रभाते।
...brings auspiciousness and grace when read at dawn.

तस्मै ददाति ललिता झटिति प्रसन्ना
To him Lalita quickly becomes pleased...

विद्यां श्रियं विमलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्तिम्।
...granting knowledge, prosperity, pure joy, and endless fame.

This is not poetry, it is promise. Recite at dawn, and the Mother rushes to bless with wisdom that does not fade, wealth that is pure, happiness that is unbroken, and glory that is eternal.

bimbaadharam pri'thulamauktikashobhinaasam.
aakarnadeerghanayanam manikund'alaad'hyam
mandasmitam mri'gamadojjvalaphaaladesham.
praatarbhajaami lalitaabhujakalpavalleem

lasadangulipallavaad'hyaam.
maanikyahemavalayaangada-
shobhamaanaam
pund'rekshuchaapa-
kusumeshusri'neerdadhaanaam.
praatarnamaami lalitaacharanaaravindam
bhaktesht'adaananiratam bhavasindhupotam.
padmaasanaadisura-
naayakapoojaneeyam
padmaankushadhvaja-
sudarshanalaanchhanaad'hyam.
praatah' stuve parashivaam lalitaam bhavaaneem
trayyangavedyavibhavaam karunaanavadyaam.
vishvasya sri'sht'ivilayasthitihetubhootaam
vidyeshvareem nigamavaangmanasaatidooraam.
praatarvadaami lalite tava punyanaama
kaameshvareeti kamaleti maheshvareeti.
shreeshaambhaveeti jagataam jananee pareti
vaagdevateti vachasaa tripureshvareeti.
yah' shlokapanchakamidam lalitaambikaayaah'
saubhaagyadam sulalitam pat'hati prabhaate.
tasmai dadaati lalitaa jhat'iti prasannaa
vidyaam shriyam vimalasaukhyamanantakeertim.
