Recently, there was a media clip in circulation on social media.
A person is performing homa. He goes on chanting mantras, and agni appears on its own in the homa kunda.
You may not understand, but from the way he performs, it can be made out that it is just fraud — a make-believe. You can understand how conversant he is with this entire thing. Don’t fall for such things.
Any chemistry student will tell you how to make fire without using a matchstick. These are just chemical reactions. But real mantra shakti can cause ignition. This we have seen how.
We say all mantras have got chhandas, or a meter. What exactly is a chhandas? A pattern — a pattern in which sounds occur in a mantra.
Even when you see the movement of subatomic particles or waves, they have specific patterns. When fission or fusion happens, certain patterns are followed.
This is why mantra vibrations produce effect. A mantra is powerful — or when chanted, produces a certain effect — because it follows a certain pattern of vibrations.
You know the phenomenon called resonance — in which two vibrating objects influence each other and produce a third effect. Have you seen how music instruments are tuned with a tuning fork?
Mantras can work like this also.
You put a pot of water on the gas stove — it doesn’t instantly come to a boil, right? You have to keep on giving it heat for some time.
Even when you are charging a magnet, you keep on hitting it with waves many times, then it gets charged. This is the reason behind repeated chanting of mantras.
Or, if the field or vibrations are so powerful, it can produce the desired effect with a single shot also. It all depends on how accomplished the chanter of the mantras is.
Do you know what kind of energy we are talking about?
This is simple physics — E = mc².
The energy that is trapped in one gram of anything — if you use that energy, you can run a water pump with a rating of 1 HP (one horsepower) continuously for 3,500 years.
That is the kind of energy we are talking about — in one gram of matter.
Mantra shastra is an effort to tap into this immense source of energy. Mantra directly deals with energy — vibrations. It is not about creating energy. It is about manipulating energy.
We say rain happens because of yajnas.
But basically, cloud formation happens because of something.
Otherwise, how does the invisible water vapour turn into visible clouds?
Every cloud has a particular shape — meaning it has an outer boundary, which may keep on changing. But still, there is something at its centre which keeps holding that cloud around itself.
It is around this nucleus that the cloud is formed. It is to this nucleus that the cloud is held.
This nucleus is something — a material. Or even an atom, or even a subatomic particle.
Have you ever thought?
Veda says that the smoke from yajna is what causes rains.
Isn’t it a possibility that the particles of the smoke from yajna, energized by mantras — they act as these nuclei around which clouds are formed? And then they precipitate?
People do precipitation of clouds using chemicals — this is called cloud seeding.
What if these smoke particles act like those cloud seeding chemicals?
Only thing — the scriptures won’t say all these.
For us, everything is divine. Water is divine. Earth is divine. Trees are divine. Sky is divine.
So instead of describing a process as science would do, the scriptures would say —
'God Parjanya blessed us with good rains.'
Or, while sending the smoke up, we would say —
'Oh God Parjanya, please give us good rains.'
These prayers — the mantras themselves — are probably the keys with which you are activating the whole process of cloud condensation and precipitation.
We should start thinking in this direction.
