यक्षस्वरूपाय जटाधराय पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय । दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै यकाराय नमः शिवाय ।।

This is from the Shiva Panchakshara Stotram. You must be familiar with this. Bhagavan is called Yaksha Swaroopa here. What is behind this? By the way, who are Yakshas? Yakshas are supernatural beings or nature spirits associated with wealth, fertility, and the protection of natural resources. They are benevolent and guard treasures. Kubera is their king. They are semi-divine in nature and mostly look like humans.

Bhagavan Shiva once took the avatar of a Yaksha. By churning the milky ocean, Amrita was obtained. After consuming Amrita, the Devas became immortal and defeated the Asuras. In the meantime, they became arrogant and forgot the roles of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in gaining power and immortality. It was Bhagavan Vishnu who gave them the idea of churning and strategized their victory over the Asuras. When the churning was going on, lethal poison came out. Mahadeva drank it and saved everyone. But for him, the Devas would have been dead. But now, they have forgotten everything and didn't bother to worship Shiva and Vishnu. Now that they have become immortal, whom should they care about?

But Bhagavan cannot neglect them, as the Devas have been his devotees. He knows where this arrogance could lead them. So, he became a Yaksha and went to the Devas. Devas welcomed him and treated him well. Each one started boasting about his power and role in defeating the Asuras. Nobody even mentioned Shiva or Vishnu.

Bhagavan manifested a blade of grass and said - If you all think you are so powerful, then split this blade of grass. Devas tried hard with their bare hands and weapons. Indra even tried with his Vajrayudha. Nothing happened to the blade of grass. They realized that this can't be just a Yaksha. They prayed to the Yaksha to reveal his true form. Bhagavan turned into the original form of Lord Shiva. They all fell at his feet and apologized.

At that time, an oracle was heard - He is the one and only Parameswara. You all have become powerful by drawing from his power. He is the source of your power. Devas realized their mistake and repledged their devotion to Lord Shiva.
