Why Devi is called Shanti

We are seeing the meaning of the fifth chapter of Durga Saptashati.
The 23rd shloka -
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥
She is shanti in all beings, both living and nonliving.
What exactly is shanti ?
Shanti is non-engagement.
If you are involved with the affairs of the world, mentally, then there is no peace.
Unless you are a true karmayogi, you can not perform any action without stress.
Rishis who perform big big yajnas for the welfare of the world, even they say that doing yajna is stressful.
The yajna is for world peace but doing that is stressful.
Being a karmayogi is not easy.
When Rishis say that even they are stressed, it means karmayoga is not all that easy.
But still there is something called peace, shanti.
At least sometimes, at least somewhere, at least intermittently.
When you are at rest, when your mind is at rest.
It can be seen, it can be felt.
That's her, That's Devi.
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः - Namaskaras to her.

The 24th shloka
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु श्रद्धारूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥
What is Sraddha?
Faith, piety, determination, conviction, commitment.
The quality, the firmness in belief that if I pray, my prayer will be answered.
The firm belief that if I do this puja, this homa, this parayana, I will definitely get the promised result.
Wherever you find this, be sure that she's there, Devi is there.

The 25th shloka
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु कान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥

Kanti is brilliance.
Brilliance not just as in light.
Brilliant dance, brilliant acting, brilliant athletic performance, brilliant administration, brilliant in studies.
Wherever you find brilliance, be sure that she's there, Devi's there.
