Meaning of Sri Venkatesha Stotra

कमलाकुचचूचुक कुङ्कुमतो नियतारुणितातुलनीलतनो।
कमलायतलोचन लोकपते विजयी भव वेङ्कटशैलपते॥ १॥

The kumkuma from the bosom of Mother Lakshmi is now adorning your body of bluish hue. Your eyes resemble the lotus petals. Victory to you.

सचतुर्मुख षण्मुख पंचमुख प्रमुखाखिलदैवतमौलिमणे।
शरणागतवत्सल सारनिधे परिपालय मां वृषशैलपते॥ २॥

Among Chaturmukha – Brahma, Shanmukha – Subrahmanya Swamy, Panchamukha – Rudra – Mahadeva – among all the devas including Chaturmukha, Panchamukha, and Shanmukha, you are the gem that shines on the topmost. You are kind towards those who take shelter in you. You are Saranidhi – essence of everything – be it knowledge, strength, power, or kindness. Protect me – oh Lord of Vrishashaila.

अतिवेलतया तव दुर्विषहै रनुवेलकृतैरपराधशतैः।
भरितं त्वरितं वृषशैलपते परया कृपया परिपाहि हरे॥ ३॥

I have been committing hundreds of sins. I am full of these sins. But your kindness is famous. Save me. Save me without any delay.

अधिवेङ्कटशैलमुदारमते जनताभिमताधिक दानरतात्।
परदेवतया गदितान्निगमैः कमलादयितान्न परं कलये॥ ४॥

Oh Lord of Venkatashaila – you always give more than what is asked for. You like doing that. Vedas say you are the greatest among Gods, but for me, I don’t even know any other God other than you.

कलवेणुरवा वशगोपवधू शतकोटिवृतात् स्मरकोटिसमात्।
प्रतिपल्लविकाभिमतात् सुखदात् वसुदेवसुतान्न परं कलये॥ ५॥

I don’t know anyone else other than you. Hundreds of crores of Gopikas flock around you. You are more handsome than a crore of Kamadevas put together. Oh Son of Vasudeva, I don’t know anyone other than you.

अभिरामगुणाकर दाशरथे जगदेकधनुर्धर धीरमते।
रघुनायक राम रमेश विभो वरदो भव देव दयाजलधे॥ ६॥

You are the abode of the best qualities. Oh Son of Dasharatha, the one and only archer of the world worthy of being called so. Brave. Leader of Raghu Vamsha. Oh Rama, Ramesha, oh Lord, ocean of kindness, shower your blessings.

अवनीतनया कमनीयकरं रजनीकरचारुमुखाम्बुरुहम्।
रजनीचरराजतमोमिहिरं महनीयमहं रघुराममये॥ ७॥

You held the hand of the daughter of Bhumidevi. Your face glows as beautiful as the Moon. You are the Sun that dispelled the darkness spread by the king of demons, Ravana. It is you alone I desire to attain.

सुमुखं सुहृदं सुलभं सुखदं स्वनुजं च सुकायममोघशरम्।
अपहाय रघूद्वहमन्यमहं न कथञ्चन कञ्चन जातु भजे॥ ८॥

The beauty of his face is incomparable, he is very friendly, he can be easily accessed, he is the giver of happiness, he has got brothers who are great – Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna, his stature is majestic, and his arrows are unfailing.
Will anyone ever leave him and worship any other God?

विना वेङ्कटेशं न नाथो न नाथः सदा वेङ्कटेशं स्मरामि स्मरामि।
हरे वेङ्कटेश! प्रसीद प्रसीद प्रियं वेङ्कटेश प्रयच्छ प्रयच्छ॥ ९॥

There is no other Natha, other than him there is no other Natha. I keep on remembering him. I perpetually remember him.
Oh Venkatesha, please show mercy on me, please be pleased with me. Please give me happiness, please grant my wishes.

अहं दूरतस्ते पदाम्भोजयुग्मप्रणामेच्छयाऽऽगत्य सेवां करोमि।
सकृत्सेवया नित्यसेवाफलं त्वं प्रयच्छ प्रयच्छ प्रभो वेङ्कटेश॥ १०॥

I have come from a long distance to offer pranama at your feet. Even though this is only for once, give me the results as if I am serving your lotus feet every day.

अज्ञानिना मया दोषानशेषान्विहितान्हरे।
क्षमस्व त्वं क्षमस्व त्वं शेषशैलशिखामणे॥ ११॥

Pardon me. I am an ignorant being. I don’t know what all I am doing – whether they are right or wrong. Please pardon all my offences. You are the gem in the peak of Sheshashaila.
