Why Ravana is Considered Evil

Why Ravana is Considered Evil

Ravana was a great scholar, no doubt about that — a master of the Vedas, a brilliant musician, and even a great devotee of Shiva. But being knowledgeable doesn’t mean you’re righteous. Here are some reasons why Ravana is considered evil despite all his knowledge.

  • He abducted Sita Devi violating basic dharma. She was a married woman.
  • Not only Sita Devi, he abducted and kept imprisoned hundreds of women and used them for his pleasure. His lust was insatiable.
  • He overthrew his half-brother Kubera and ruled Lanka through fear and tyranny, not dharma.
  • He was driven by ego and arrogance.
  • His army of rakshasas tormented sages and tapaswis in the mainland of Bharata and even killed and ate them.
He never listened to the advice of wise people including Vibhishana and Nandi.
  • He misused the boon received from Brahma to rule through fear.
He used deceit and black magic in battle.
  • His actions led to widespread fear and imbalance across the three worlds
  • He never realized his mistakes or repented.
