Why Did Shiva Kill Kamadeva?

Do you know that Kamadeva was burned down to ashes by Lord Shiva not just once.
This happened twice.
You must have heard about how Kamadeva was burned down when he tried to entice Shiva towards Devi Parvathy.

Much much before this, even before the incarnation of Mahamaya as Sati Devi, daughter of Daksha, even before that..

After Brahma created his mind born sons, in the same way from his mind was born a beautiful girl.
She was named Sandhya.
What is the reason for this?
ब्रह्मणो ध्यायतो यस्मात् सम्यग्जाता वराङ्गना।
She was born from Brahma's meditation.
And such a beautiful creation.
From सं of सम्यक् and ध्या of ध्यानं
it became सं-ध्या
She was named Sandhya.
Mind born, so she didn't have a mother.
Brahma just thinks about something and that comes into existence.
It is not procreation in which you require union of a male and a female.
This is manifestation, not procreation.

The creative process turned into procreation after Kamadeva was born.
That was the very purpose of Kamadeva's birth.
To give some relief to Brahma.
The created beings will unite with each other as male-female pairs and increase their population.
The earth was empty at the beginning.
Only those ten mind born sons were there.
They could not have done this so fast.

But for the male and the female to unite, something has to develop between them.
The male should have desire for the female.
The female should have desire for the male.
This Kamadeva brings in.
In a way, you can say that Kamadeva controls hormones.

As soon as Sandhya was born Brahma and his manasa putras became curious.
What is she going to do?
What is going to be her role in creation?

When Brahma thought like this, Kamadeva came into existence.
From his mind.
So handsome.
Kamadeva asked Brahma, why am I here, what am I supposed to do.

You have to trigger passion between the male and the female.
Not just man and woman.
All beings, birds, animals, even Devas, Asuras, Yakshas.
This is for procreation.

You will do this with your five arrows.
They will be so powerful, they will be even more powerful than the weapons of Vishnu and Shiva.

Not only that Brahma said,

अहं वा वासुदेवो वा स्थाणुर्वा पुरुषोत्तमः।
भविष्याम तव वशे किमन्यैः प्राणधारिभिः॥
You will be able to control anyone, even me, Vasudeva and Sthanu, Shiva.

You can enter into any being whenever you want and your duty is to promote procreation.

Kamadeva thought, let me start with my duty straight away.
Let me display my talent right here.
Male and female, both are present here.
And Brahma has said, I have authority over everyone.

Kamadeva shot his arrows.
Everyone including Brahma started looking at Sandhya with passion.
Even she started looking towards them with passion.

Such an odd situation.

When Shiva saw this he told Brahma:

अहो ब्रह्मन् अत्र कथं कामभावाः समुद्गताः।
दृष्ट्वा स्वतनयां नैतद्योग्यं वेदानुसारिणाम्॥

She is your daughter.
This is not right.
Veda doesn't permit this.

यथा माता तथा जामिर्यथा जामिस्तथा सुता।
एष वै वेदमार्गस्य निश्चयस्त्वन्मुखोत्थितः।
कथं तु काममात्रेण तत्ते विस्मारितं विधे॥

You have yourself said this.
That daughter and daughter in law are equal to one's own mother.
You have said that this is the Vedic principle.
Now, just because of this Kama you have forgotten that.

The whole world depends on your integrity.
This is so shameful.
How can you do this?

And this fellow here, this Kama, so foolish, see who he is playing with.

Brahma started sweating.
Then he became angry and told Shiva.
He has become arrogant.
He doesn't know his limits.
Please burn him down with the fire from your third eye.

Kamadeva pleaded: What wrong have I done, you said I have authority over everyone including you.
But then Lord Shiva really burned him down.
Before that happened Brahma gave Kamadeva relief also.
He had cooled down after he vented his rage.

Shiva will get married sometime.
That time he will revive you.

People in positions of power should realize their limits as well.
Otherwise their fate will be like what happened to Kamadeva.
