What is the role of faith in upasana? In upasana, there is the upasya - the devata who is sought. The upasaka - the person who is seeking the devata, The upasaka strives to achieve the upasya through dhyana, japa, homa, puja, katha-shravana, etc. The more he or she spends time with the upasaya devata, the faster and easier the devata will be achieved., What is the role of faith in this? Take a shirt. You want to fix a button onto that shirt. How do you do that? With a thread. Using thread and a needle you fix....

What is the role of faith in upasana?
In upasana, there is the upasya - the devata who is sought.
The upasaka - the person who is seeking the devata,
The upasaka strives to achieve the upasya through dhyana, japa, homa, puja, katha-shravana, etc.
The more he or she spends time with the upasaya devata, the faster and easier the devata will be achieved.,
What is the role of faith in this?
Take a shirt.
You want to fix a button onto that shirt.
How do you do that?
With a thread.
Using thread and a needle you fix the button onto the shirt.
Faith is like this thread.
It attaches the upasaka to the upasya devata.
Before attaching with the thread, the shirt and the button were two separate entities.
The thread brought them together.
The button became part of the thread.
Someone is sick.
There is medicine that can cure him.
Now a third-party, the doctor comes in.
He gives the medicine to the patient.
The medicine is swallowed and it gets absorbed into the patient's body.
Now, they are not separate from each other.
Faith is like this doctor.
Faith makes the upasaka become one with the upasaya devata.
Faith makes the upasaka to be absorbed into the upasya devata.
Without faith, the upasaka and the upasya like the shirt and the button are two separate entities.
Without faith, the upasaka and the upasya like the patient and the medicine are two separate entities.
