1. Paduka Pattabhishekam - Bharata coronated the Padukas of Sri Rama before ruling Ayodhya on his behalf. 2. Sugreeva Pattabhishekam - Sugreeva was coronated as the king of Kishkindha after Bali was killed. 3. Vibhishana Pattabhishekam - coronation of Vibhishana as the king of Lanka. And finally 4. Sri Rama Pattabhishekam.
After the Ashwamedha yaga, Rishyashringa is conducing putreshti for Dasharatha particularly for begetting children using mantras mentioned in the Atharva Shiras for this purpose. Ashwamedha yaga is indirect. Ashwamedha yaga takes the yajamana to swarga. For going to swarga, descendents have to be there. Vamsha has to continue. Then why did Dasharatha do Ashwamedha at all? After the Ashwamedha yaga, Rishyashringa is conducing putreshti for Dasharatha particularly for begetting children using mantras mentioned in the Atharva Shiras for this purpose.
Ashwamedha yaga is indirect.
Ashwamedha yaga takes the yajamana to swarga.
For going to swarga, descendents have to be there.
Vamsha has to continue.
Then why did Dasharatha do Ashwamedha at all?
He could have just done Putreshti which is the direct simple method.
Because there a lot of sin that you incur when you are a ruler, when you are born in the vamsha of rulers.
There is violence involved in ruling.
Unless this load of sins is neutralized, pushti karma such as putreshti will not work.
This is what Bhima tells Yodhishtira in Mahabharata.
यदेनः कुरुते किंचिद् राजा भूमिमवाप्नुवन्।
सर्वं तन्नुदते पश्चाद् यज्ञैर्विपुलदक्षिणैः॥
Kings wash away their sins by performing elaborate yajnas.
First the ground is cleared of weeds, harmful substances, then the seed is to be planted.
Ashwamedha is shanti-karma, Putreshti is pushti-karma.
All Devas, Maharshis, Siddhas; they have all assembled to receive their respective shares of offerings.
At that time Devas are telling Brahma:
Because of the boon that you have given him, that Rakshasa, Ravana, we are not able to manage him, control him.
What is the boon that Brahma had given to Ravana?
That Devas will not be able to kill him.
We respect the boon that you have given him.
It is not that we don't have the power to kill him.
What is stopping us is our respect for you.
Your word that we will not kill him.
That is our helplessness.
He terrorizes the three worlds.
Your boon is his power.
He threatens the lokapalas, the governing devatas of the world.
He wants to unseat Indra.
He torments Rishis, Yakshas, Gandharwas, Brahmanas, even Asuras.
When Ravana is around, the Sun is scared to produce heat.
The wind doesn't go near his gardens scared that if even a flower happens to fall down, what will he do to me?
Have you ever seen the ocean without waves?
When Ravana is around the ocean becomes absolutely still, in fear.
They are not scared in the literal sense.
They are hesitant becasue if they offend him and if he attacks, they won't be able to fight back.
Ravana is not indefeatable.
Didn't Bali defeat him?
But the hand of Devas are tied because of the boon given by Brahma.
Please give us a solution.
To kill him, to get rid of him.
His atrocities have become unbearable.
Brahma said:
When he asked for the boon, Ravana had specified that he should not be killed by Gandharwas, Yakshas, Devas, Danavas and Rakshasas.
He never mentioned humans.
He underestimated humans.
He thought a human will never be able to get near him.
So he can be killed by a human being.
If Ravana is to be killed, then only a man will be able to do it.
An ordinary human being?
No. Impossible.
The Lord has to assume human form and do it.
परमात्मा नराकृतिः
Lord Rama is नराकृतिपरमात्मा
Otherwise, Dasharatha is a human being, very powerful.
He could have killed Ravana.
There were also very powerful kings.
They couldn't do anything.
So, not just any human.
The Paramatma has to assume human form.
Devas pray to Vishnu that he should assume human form.
That means none of the humans present on earth at that time was capable of killing Ravana.
Devas and Rishis were somewhat relieved.
At that time, Lord of the universe, Vishnu appeare there, in yellow clothes, holding shankha, chakra and gada in his hands.
Why is the Lord holding these weapons always in his hands.
When a sitution comes where he has to get involved and protect, time should not he wasted looking for weapons.
That's why he is always carrying these weapons in his hands.
Brilliant. As brilliant as a thousand suns which have risen togther.
Why brilliant?
The Lord is happy becasue he is getting an opportunity to save someone.
Mounted on Gaurda.
Lord Vishnu has not come to receive offerings in the Putreshti.
He has come with a different purpose.
He has come to bless Dasharatha with children.
He is the giver of the results of karma.
Dasharatha has washed away all the sins by performing Ashwamedha yaga.
He is doing satkarma, pushti-karma in the form of Putreshti.
He has to be given results?
Who will give?
Lord Vishnu.
That's what he has come for.
Along with this he has to do:
Sadhoonam paritrana, dushkritam vinasha and dharma samsthapana.
Protection of the world is Bhagavan's responsibility.
He is aware of the atrocities of Ravana.
He has to put an end to it.
He has been just waiting for an opportunity to take avatara.
Now that opportunity has come.
He has descended from Vaikuntha.
Bhagavan is so eager to help.
The moment Brahma said that Ravana can be killed only by a human, he has come, he is ready.
What Devas prayed to him, we will see in the next episode.
