The main river Ganga starts from Devprayag in Uttarakhand. It is a confluence of two rivers, Alakananda and Bhagirathi. Alakananda originates as the snow on the peaks Nandadevi, Trisul, and Kamet melts. Bhagirathi starts from Gomukh at the base of the Gangotri glacier.
Anecdote: A diamond viewed from different angles reveals various facets and brilliance. Focusing on just one angle won't do justice to its beauty. To truly understand philosophical concepts like the self, one needs to explore them from multiple perspectives - spiritual, psychological, and philosophical. Each angle adds to a fuller, more comprehensive understanding.
Srimad Bhagawata talks about two sure shot methods to develop interest in Bhagawan, in Bhagawan's stories. Why Bhagawan's stories? Because that is the method of Bhagawata. Just by listening to his stories, you can attain even the highest goal, his lotus feet. Nothing else is required. But a beginner doesn't know what is so great about his stories.
He doesn't know what is in there.
These days when a new movie is released, before that the trailer comes out, then the synopsis of the story comes out, there are ads with captions telling us what the movie is all about.
But there was no TV then, no print media, no social media, no YouTube.
So even what is inside the book has to be told through the book only.
It is menioned at the beginning of the book.
But here the question is - I just don't have interest in Bhagawan's stories.
It's not that I don't like them or anything.
But I just don't have interest.
What do I do?
That's where Bhagawata is giving 2 solutions.
शुश्रूषोः श्रद्दधानस्य वासुदेवकथारुचिः।
स्यान्मत्सेवया विप्राः पुण्यतीर्थनिषेवणात्॥
1 - Go on pilgrimages.
2 - Serve Bhagawan's devotees.
Why go on pligrimages?
When you are entangled in day-to-day life, it is difficult to find time.
So get away from the routine.
Secondly it is in places like Vrindavan and Kashi where pravachans take place round-the-year, story-telling takes place round-the-year.
Mahatmas prefer to live in these holy teerthas.
And it is from them that you listen and learn.
We have seen that Bhagawan lives in the hearts of his devotees.
So if you are with them, then you are with Bhagawan.
If you serve them, then you are serving Bhagawan.
The more you live with them, interact with them, observe their conduct and behaviour, you will yourself realize what great transformation has happened to them by being Bhagawan's devotees.
This will inspire you.
You will get to know their personal divine experiences.
This will motivate you.
This will bring you interest in Bhagawan, interest in listening to Bhagawan's stories.
Essentially this means, get access to Bhagawan's stories well told by knowledgeble people and also interact more and more with his devotees.
You will naturally develop interest in his stories.
