Thondamanadu is in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is at a distance of 38 km from Tirupati. Thondamanadu used to be the capital of Thondaman Chakravarthy who built Tirupati temple. It is famous for the temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
In his avatara as Sri Venkateswara Swamy, Mahavishnu married Padmavathy Devi. She was the daughter of King Akasaraju belonging to the clan of Pandavas. Thondaman Chakravarthy was Akasaraju’s half-brother. Their father was Sudharma. Akasaraju’s mother was Dharanidevi. Thondaman’ mother was a Naga kanya. Tirupati temple was built by Thondaman Chakravarthy.
Thondaiman was an ardent devotee of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. After he built the temple, Swamy occupied it. Thondaman came to the temple every day and worshiped Swamy with golden flowers. When Thondaman became old he was unable to travel up to Tirumala. Then, Venkateswara Swamy gave him darshan at Thondamanadu itself and blessed him with his perpetual presence there. In this temple, Venkateswara Swamy blesses devotees along with Bhudevi, and Sridevi by his side.
