Satsang refers to interacting with devotees—listening to spiritual discourses, singing bhajans, sharing devotional stories and experiences, reciting scriptures, performing group pujas, decorating temples, annadanam, and engaging in other virtuous activities. In today’s world, a lot of satsang happens through social media.
Satsang greatly helps in awakening and strengthening devotion. Our surroundings influence us significantly. Associating with atheists can steer the mind in that direction, while engaging with devotees cultivates devotion within.
The mind, clouded by ignorance due to vasanas accumulated over countless lifetimes, does not easily awaken to devotion. When one begins experiencing devotion, the mind may initially resist, questioning and even rejecting it with reasoning. This is where satsang becomes essential. Without satsang, it is difficult for devotion to take deep root in the mind.
For those walking the path of devotion, two things are absolutely necessary:
These two purify the mind and firmly establish devotion.
