No one desires suffering or hardship. Everyone seeks happiness and prosperity and strives to attain them. However, very few think about accumulating punya.
Pious deeds are actions that lead to happiness and prosperity. According to the Bhagavad Gita, one can attain higher spiritual states through punya karma and worshiping god.
Any action done not just for one’s own happiness but for the benefit of others - including all living beings - is a punya karma. We should set aside a portion of our daily routine for such actions. Similarly, a part of our wealth should also be dedicated to these deeds. This is how punya is earned.
In our ancient traditions, performing punya karma held great significance. However, in today’s self-centered and ego-driven mindset, this practice has faded away.
Performing punya karma is a key means of receiving divine grace. Those who engage in such actions naturally progress towards devotion and wisdom. All forms of prosperity come to them effortlessly. They attain peace and contentment. Through punya karma, they achieve self-purification, making the path to moksha smooth and effortless.
