Sri Hari is that one and only God who existed even before creation.
It is a single Agni which has pervaded the universe. Its reflections are of various forms. It is the fire that burns, it is the digestive fire within humans and other beings, it is lightning in the cloud, it is the burning power latent in fuels. In the same way, it is the single Paramatma who has pervaded everything. His reflections are manifold – as the Jeevatmas, as trees, as plants, as insects, as elephant, as tiger, as mountain, as the ocean.
It is a single Vayu which has pervaded the universe. Its reflections appear to be manifold. The storm, the wind in the sail, the air that sounds the flute, the Prana Vayu within beings. In the same way, the one and only Antaratma, Paramatma, appears to be many.
Sun is the eye of the Prapancha. We are able to see because of Sun, so he is called सर्वलोकस्य चक्षुः – eye of the whole world. But he is not affected by the guna or dosha of the vision of the individuals who see because of him. Two people see a wretched beggar lying by the side of the road. For one it is repulsive, nauseating – he turns his head away. The other has kindness in his eyes – he feels sad. The object is the same for both. But what they see is affected by the guna or dosha in them. Even when these gunas and doshas of the viewers exist, Sun is not affected by them. In the same way, the Antaratma or Paramatma is not affected by the gunas or doshas of the beings whom he occupies.
Who gets happiness in this world? One who can understand this truth. It is the one and only Paramatma who appears as the multitude of beings, living and non-living, around us. What causes unhappiness? Conflicts. When it is realized that everything is one – the one and only Paramatma – all conflicts end, unhappiness ends.
That ever-permanent who is the Chetana – life force – in every being, Paramatma, he alone is the fulfiller of all desires. Once you know that it is him alone who exists even within yourself, then all that remains is peace – Shanti.
