Results of the Various Steps in Shiva Puja
We have been seeing about the Shodasha Upachara Puja of Lord Shiva.
How each step is done, the significance of each of these 16 steps we have seen.
Now we will see about the benefit of doing each of these sixteen steps.
One – Avahana – invocation – if you invoke the Lord once, onto the linga or idol, all the papas that you have done until then are dissolved. Gone.
सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
What does it mean? Papa gives results as present and future sufferings, problems.
When you do Shiva Puja, Avahana if done properly, focused on Him, with devotion,
will remove all your present and future problems.
Second – Asana Samarpanam
आसनानां प्रदानेन स्थानं सर्वत्र विन्दति
When you offer a seat to the Lord, you also get a seat everywhere, respect everywhere, position everywhere.
ततस्त्वर्घ्यप्रदानेन सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Giving of Arghya – relief from all papas of the past and possibility of doing papa also in the future.
The next – Padya
गोदानफलमाप्नोति ततो पाद्यप्रदो नरः
The result of giving Padya, doing Padya – washing of the Lord’s feet –
the result of doing Godana is obtained.
If you provide Achamaneeya –
स्वर्गलोकमवाप्नोति सर्वपापविवर्जितः
Then comforts and pleasures of Swargaloka will be waiting for you.
आचमनीयस्य दाता भवति निर्मलः
Why do we give Achamaneeya to the Lord? For His own internal purity.
When you do that, you also become pure.
When you do Abhyanga of the Lord by applying scented oil,
this would give you the result of doing Bhumidana.
Now – Snana Phala –
There are specific results for doing the Lord’s Snana with different Dravyas:

Milk – all dukkha of the body and mind will go away
-
Ghee – result of giving 100 cows in Dana
-
Curd – attainment of Kailasa
-
Fruit juice – result of doing 100 Ashwamedha Yagas
Water collected in the night should not be used for Abhisheka.
Vastra Samarpanam –
Count the number of threads in the Vastra that you are providing to the Lord.
So many thousands of years you can live in Kailasa.
Avoid blue and old clothes absolutely, or those used for other Devatas.
But blue colour is allowed in the case of silk and wool.
All kinds of comforts are obtained by doing Gandha Samarpanam, Chandana Samarpanam.
Offering flowers increases prosperity, also fame, longevity, health, and intelligence,
also attainment of heaven.
When you offer Dhoopa to the Lord, all desires are granted by Him.
By offering Deepa (lamp), all Papas are removed and also it gives the result of Ashwamedha Yaga.
The results of Naivedya, Tamboola Samarpana and Neerajana we have already seen.
