The Lord was explaining to Brahma and Vishnu the Pancha Krityas of Himself — the five kinds of actions that He performs:
Srishti, Stithi, Samhara, Tirobhava, and Anugraha.
Out of these, He had delegated:
Srishti to Brahma
Palana to Vishnu
Samhara to Rudra
Tirobhava to Mahesha — Tirobhava is the state we had seen after Pralaya and before the next Srishti. Mahesha is in charge of that.
We also saw that Rudra and Mahesha are different and not the same as Shiva.
After delegating these four duties, the Lord kept the fifth action — Anugraha — with Himself.
The Lord also told Brahma and Vishnu that He had five faces because of His rulership over these five Krityas.
Rudra and Mahesha look exactly like the Lord, because they were constantly focused on Him, perpetually focused on Him — they got Sarupya, same form as Him.
Brahma and Vishnu didn’t do this, so they had different forms. If they had also done so, they also would have got His Sarupya.

What to do now?
तस्मान्मज्ज्ञानसिध्यर्थं मंत्रमोंकारनामकम् इतः परं प्रजपतम्
'You both start chanting Omkara, this will give you knowledge about Me, realize Me like how Rudra and Mahesha have realized Me.'
The purpose of Omkara is to realize Shiva Tattva.
Omkara originated from Lord Shiva only — from His Mukha. Its purpose is Sakshatkara of Shiva Swaroopa. By doing Sadhana of Omkara, Shiva Swaroopa is attained.
The content of Omkara is Lord Shiva.
What is described by Omkara is Lord Shiva.
Omkara is Lord Shiva’s description.
When you say 'apple' — there is the object called apple, and the word A-P-P-L-E. The word describes the object.
In the same way, Omkara describes Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva is the Vachya and Omkara is the Vachaka.
Omkara has got five components — Akara, Ukara, Makara, Bindu, and Nada:
From the North face of the Lord, Akara came out.
From the West face, Ukara came out.
From the South face, Makara came out.
From the East face, Bindu came out.
From the Middle face, Nada came out.
Then they all got together and became Omkara.
This entire universe is penetrated by Omkara. Omkara is there in every inch of this universe.
Omkara represents both Shiva Tattva and Shakti Tattva.
Panchakshara Mantra came out of Omkara only.
Just like the Saguna Swaroopa of the Lord came out of the Agni Stambha — which is His Nirguna Swaroopa — in the same way, Panchakshara Mantra came out of Omkara.
Panchakshara Mantra is the sound of the Lord’s Sakala Swaroopa or Saguna Swaroopa.
Omkara is the sound of His Nishkala Swaroopa.
All the alphabets of Sanskrit — they all originated from Panchakshara Mantra.
Gayatri originated from Panchakshara Mantra.
And from Gayatri, the Vedas and crores and crores of mantras.
Through each mantra, there is a specific Siddhi that can be obtained. For example, Kubera Mantra is for wealth.
But if you want every Siddhi, then you should chant Panchakshara Mantra, because every other mantra has originated from Panchakshara Mantra, which has originated from Omkara.
And Omkara is Lord Shiva Himself — as sound.
Since all the mantras have originated from Panchakshara Mantra, they are all capable of giving Bhoga and Moksha — meaning, if a mantra is meant for giving Bhoga, it will give Bhoga; if it is meant for giving Moksha, it will give Moksha.
