Lakshmi Devi Gives Ananda to Her Devotees

चन्द्रां - we have already seen the meaning of the word chandra – she provides immense happiness, she provides ahlada, ananda, she is in a state of ananda due to her proximity to Sri Hari and imparts the same to her devotees also. Hence called chandra.

प्रभासाम् – प्रकृष्टतया भासमानाम् – exceptionally brilliant.

सहस्रेन्दुसमप्रकाशाम् - her brilliance is as if a thousand moons have lighted up in the sky together. That is the brilliance of her body, her self. Her fame is also equally brilliant, shining.

यशसा ज्वलन्तीम् - her fame, her glory as the mother of the universe, as the saha dharminee of Sri Hari, as the epitome of utmost kindness, as the goddess of all wealth, her fame is brilliant and she is glowing and dazzling in that fame.

श्रियम् – सर्व समाश्रयणीयाम् – she is called shree because she is the ashraya of everyone. Everyone means – also loke सर्वेषूपरिलोकेषु वर्तमानैरपि. Even those who live in the worlds above – bhuvarloka, swargaloka, maholoka, janoloka, tapoloka and satyaloka. They all depend on her.

And she is देवजुष्टाम् - devas pray to her, serve to her to obtain devatva and maintain devatva. Devatva of devas is at her pleasure. They remain as devas only as long as she wishes. So they continuously serve her.

दिव्यो देव एको नारायणः. And she is the source of ananda for the one and only deva – Narayana. And for her also the only source of ananda is Sri Hari, his proximity.

उदाराम् – देवेभ्यः सर्वकामवर्षिणीम् – she showers all their wishes upon the devas, she is so generous to them as well.

पद्मनेमिं – पद्मेव नयनसाधनम् – पद्मेव नयनमोहनम् – as pleasant to the eyes as the lotus flower. Nemi means rim of a wheel – this wheel of samsara comprising of repetitions birth life and death – the samsara chakra, this wheel of time, called kalachakra – which keeps on repeating itself kalpa after kalpa – they are all just lotuses in her hands.

तां शरणमहं प्रपद्ये - I take refuge in her.

त्वां वृणे - I accept you as my only refuge, I accept your lotus feet as my only refuge.

And by doing so,
अलक्ष्मीः मे नश्यतां - may my alakshmi be destroyed.

  • How does Vishnu and Lakshmi bring real happiness in life?
Their presence is like a steady anchor. When you remember them, you feel lighter inside. The mind stops running behind endless wants. Inner calm reflects as better sleep, balanced emotions, and even improved physical health.

  • Why is their grace compared to light?
Just like light removes darkness without struggle, their grace removes confusion, fear, and despair. In relationships too, clarity comes — misunderstandings reduce and bonds become stronger.

  • What role does devotion play in daily challenges?
Bhakti acts as strength when life throws problems. You may still face issues at work, in health, or in family, but devotion ensures you don’t collapse. It gives the energy to stand up again and deal with things with dignity.

  • Can devotion to Vishnu and Lakshmi affect family harmony?
Yes. When a home is centered around them, values like respect, patience, and gratitude grow. Arguments lose intensity, elders feel honored, children feel protected. The family starts functioning like a well-knit team.

  • How does their blessing touch one’s love life?
Lakshmi stands for harmony and beauty, Vishnu stands for order and steadiness. Together they represent a balanced relationship. Their blessing reflects in couples who balance affection with responsibility, where love isn’t only attraction but mutual respect.

  • Why is their remembrance important even for material well-being?
Wealth without peace turns into burden. Health without joy feels incomplete. By aligning with them, you gain both prosperity and the wisdom to use it rightly. This balance keeps you from feeling empty even when you have plenty.

  • What happens when you consciously take refuge in them?
You stop depending only on your limited strength. You open yourself to a higher flow of grace. Slowly, you notice negative tendencies — greed, jealousy, frustration — losing grip. In their place, courage, generosity, and contentment grow.
