God Has Created Women to Be Rulers

God has created women to be rulers. This is what the Veda says.

This is a mantra addressed to the bride who is heading to her marital home: Go there and become the Samrajnee, the Empress.

The question is, who can be better managers, men or women? Do you know what our scriptures say about the qualities in women?

Charm, good habits, honesty, integrity, virtues, sweetness, purity of thought and deeds, caring nature, protective nature, inclination to be of help, to be of service to others, tolerance, and commitment in relationships.

Particularly in the case of management and administration, among the Trimurthys, the Tridevas, who is the manager? Vishnu. He is the Lord of both Palana and Poshana—management and nourishment. And what is Lord Sri Hari famous for? His tolerance.

Sage Bhrigu once kicked him on his chest to test his tolerance. The Lord asked him, 'Did you get hurt? My chest is hard like a diamond. Did your leg get hurt?' The Lord still bears the mark of the sage’s foot on his chest as an ornament to show the world how tolerant he is.

So, the universe’s manager, administrator—what is the quality that he himself likes to show off? Tolerance. Between man and woman, who has got tolerance? Woman. Man is egoistic by nature, impulsive by nature. Woman is tolerant by nature.

Do you know how tolerance has come into women? Because tolerance is built into the female body. God has made it that way. The menstrual cycle—you can’t wish it away. The discomforts can’t be wished away. Women learn to accommodate their day-to-day life in accordance with this cycle.

There is a reward also for this. Any sin accidentally committed during the month gets washed off once menstruation happens. A woman becomes pure at the end of the menses. This is what our scriptures say.

Agni Purana—this is the reward she gets for the tolerance. Can a man restrict all his physical activities for nine months so that a new life is brought into the world? Only a woman can do this. Both her body and mind are made that way. Given the option of pregnancy, how many men will be ready to take it? Only a woman can do it. This is built into a woman. Tolerance and working towards long-term goals are built into a woman.

Even in procreation, man’s role is limited to a few seconds or minutes. It is the woman who has long-term goals. Today’s couples could be better. They plan together, they share responsibilities together. But it is the woman who is primarily responsible for long-term goals. Nurturing nature—this is part of motherhood, combined with tolerance.

I remember one incident: an HR head of a corporate was discussing with me about a particular employee. He had made life difficult for her—a resourceful person but very rude. Even one-on-one with him was a challenge, not just for her but for everyone. It was a choice of whether to throw him out or not. I asked her, 'Is it possible to get a replacement?' She said, 'Yes, difficult but not impossible.'

'Why not, then? Ultimately, you have to think about the organization.'

After a couple of months, I asked her what happened with that employee. She said, 'I put him through a coaching program to improve himself. He is doing much better now.'

'But why? Why did you take that risk? It could have harmed your own career. Seeing the way he behaves with you, others would have started taking you for granted.'

She said, 'I thought about his family.'

This—only a woman can do. A man in her place, at the first instance his ego is hurt, would have thrown him out. Forget the humanitarian aspect—that may not always work in business. But she retained a good resource person for the organization. This—only a woman can do. If a man does this, you can say he has risen up, grown up to the level of a woman.

Sri Hari Mahavishnu, the sustainer of the universe, the manager of the universe, is famous for his inclination to protect. Any trouble—you go to him, and he will protect you. What can be more protective than the bosom of a mother? The tendency to protect is built into a woman.

So, in an organization, when it comes to protecting and safeguarding financial stability, reputation, goodwill, growth, and satisfaction, it is the woman who can perform better in this role because the ability to protect anything is built into a woman. This is part of motherhood.

Short-term goals, like day trading in the stock market—maybe men are better. Achieving a daily target, a monthly target—maybe men are better. But long-term goals—women do better because that is built into them. They are more suited for long-term thinking. See, throughout pregnancy, they don’t think about the day-to-day discomfort. They are focused on the result that is going to come after nine months.

Honesty and integrity are built into a woman. You can just compare the number of women and men undergoing reformation in our prisons. Who is more? Obvious.

See, knowledge—anybody can acquire. Both men and women. There is no difference in terms of intelligence. Skills—anybody can acquire. Both can acquire.

No wonder the universal manager, administrator Sri Hari, was so impressed with these qualities in women that he himself took avatara as a woman—Mohini.
