Divine Intervention: Lessons from Devas' Praise of Devi

स्तुता सुरैः पूर्वमभीष्टसंश्रयात्तथा सुरेन्द्रेण दिनेषु सेविता ।

करोतु सा नः शुभहेतुरीश्वरी शुभानि भद्राण्यभिहन्तु चापदः ।। 

The 35th shloka of the 5th chapter of Durga Saptashati -

Earlier in this chapter, Devas praised Devi highlighting her 23 qualities -

Vishnumaya, Chetana, Buddhi, Nidra, Kshudha, Chhaya, Shakti, Trishna, Kshanti, Jati, Lajja, Shanti, Shraddha, Kanti, Lakshmi, Vritti, Smriti, Daya, Tushti, Matha, Bhranti Vyapti, and Chiti.

These 23 qualities can also be found in the procedure of peetha puja in Navakshari Mantra prayoga.

This is not the first time Devas have praised her. Even in the past they have taken refuge in her for achieving their desires or whenever they faced some trouble. Not only for this, the king of Devas, Indra worships her every day.

Now, Devas are wishing that she would confer upon them everything auspicious by taking them out from the danger they are in.

She is 'Shubhahetu', if anything good happens to anyone, she is behind it.

Lessons -

1. Even  Devas turn to her for guidance, and protection during challenging times.
2. Devas acknowledge that Devi is behind all auspicious happenings and is their protector; they are surrendering to her.
3. Surrender is not about helplessness, it is about accessing higher layers of wisdom and power.
4. Nurturing positive mental states (such as gratitude, love, and compassion) leads to well-being and happiness.
5. Turning to the divine only in times of trouble may not immediately result in divine intervention; Indra’s daily worship of Devi symbolizes that regular connection with the divine power fosters ongoing well-being and strengthens the likelihood of divine support during crises.
