Often these days we come across situations where a temple, particularly an installed Shiva Linga, is to be relocated.
This is in the name of development — widening of roads, making new roads, making buildings.
What does Shaiva Siddhanta have to say about this?
I am referring here to the 3000 verses of Tirumular, starting from the 515th verse.
If someone makes an effort to relocate a Shiva Linga, then even before it is completed, disaster would fall upon the place.
Such decisions are taken by people in power — rulers, authorities.
Even before they complete this, they will fall from their positions.
Not only that — such decision makers will be affected by diseases soon, which will lead to their death.
Nobody has the right to relocate a Shiva Linga — whatever be the reason.
The next verse says — nobody has the right.
Not even the person who built the temple.
Even he doesn’t have the right to even move a single stone from the compound wall of the temple — forget relocating the Shiva Linga.
A god, a deva, doesn’t have the authority to do this.
Rishis and munis don’t have the authority to do this.
The consequences are disastrous.
A Shiva temple coming into existence is not like a normal building.
It is a great blessing for this place.
He himself decides to bless that place — that’s how the temple comes there.
After that, nobody has any right to play around with it.
You can build and demolish buildings as much as you want.
But never, never touch a Shiva temple — just because you want to make a road and name it after your leader or yourself.
Work for the welfare of the people — you have to build roads, you have to build homes.
But never ever touch a Shiva temple.
The consequences will be disastrous.
If puja in a Shiva temple is disrupted, then people who are responsible for that puja to happen — they are affected.
Not even a single time puja can be skipped — particularly in a Shiva temple.
Before you venture to install a Shiva Linga, make sure that you have all the resources to ensure proper performance of puja.
If the rulers are responsible for stoppage of puja, if the authorities are responsible — then they are affected.
In such case, there will not be proper rains, there will be theft, robbery in the place.
Those who perform puja in Shiva temple — they should be proper persons.
Not that for namesake he is a priest, that he belongs to a family of priests.
Devotion should be there.
They should have learned the proper method of worship.
Mahadeva does not tolerate dereliction and irresponsible behaviour.
