Story of Dambhasura and how Lord Ganesha took birth as Brahma's manasaputra.
1. Bijapura- Pomegranate 2 Kapitha- Elephant apple / Wood apple. 3. Jamboophala- Jamun. 4. Banana.
Brahma wants Lord Ganesha to take birth as his son. This is after the Lord removed Brahma's arrogance that he is the creator and above everyone else. Brahma realized his mistake. And did not want to commit anything wrong in the future. That's why he is asking the Lord to take birth as his son. A son will always protect the parents. Only a small part of Lord Ganesha will be born as Brahma's son. The Lord also blessed that if at all you meet with any obstacle, just remember me, the obstacles ....
The Lord also blessed that if at all you meet with any obstacle, just remember me, the obstacles will go away.
Now let's see why and how the Lord took birth as Brahma's son.
In Vakratundavatara, we know the Lord reformed Matsarasura.
What is matsara?
Sense of competition.
This is an asuri shakti.
After he reformed him the Lord told Matsarasura that if anyone neglects to worship me or remember me at the beginning of any venture, then you take over and run things the way you want.
Matsarasura will take over means he will occupy the mind of that person and generate sense of competition in him.
Rather than focusing on one's own qualities and capabilities he will start focusing on how to beat the competition.
His clarity and focus will be lost.
We know about many businesses which have collapsed trying to beat the competition.
Giving huge discounts undercutting the competitor's offer and doing business even making losses. thinking that they can drive out the competitors from the market and then enjoy monopoly.
Be clear, in such cases Matsarasura is at work.
He has taken over and eventually he will make sure that the business venture dooms.
That is his food.
What happens to food?
Once we consume it, it is gone, it is not there anymore.
In the same way when Matsarasura consumes a venture or a business then it is gone, finished.
Now, another such asuri shakti, dambha, arrogance, that nobody can beat me, that I am the best.
DambahAsura.
Once Brahma's body shivered.
Just how you shiver when the weather is very cold.
When Brahma shivered an Asura came out of his body.
Even Brahma didn't realize what had happened.
He suddenly saw this Asura standing before him and asked him: who are you?
What are you doing here?
This Asura by birth was high headed.
He replied arrogantly: don't you know me?
I am your son.
Give me a name, give me a place to stay and a job to do.
Job means livelihood, activity through which he will get his food.
Brahma laughed and said: I will give you a name that suits your nature; Dambha, arrogance, Dambhasura.
You can go wherever you want and consume whatever you come across.
Dambhasura came down to earth.
But then he thought, my own father Brahma, he didn't treat me properly, he didn't take me seriously.
I have to get honour.
So he went to Asura guru Shukracharya and obtained a mantra from him.
Standing on one leg and without eating anything he chanted that mantra for 10,000 years.
Such tapas generates a lot of heat.
The whole world became affected by this heat.
Brahma had no option but to go to him and give him what he wanted.
Dambha said: I want to be the ruler of the three worlds.
Nobody should be able to defeat me in battle.
Nothing made out of panchabhutas should be able to kill me and I want health and a lot of wealth.
Brahma granted him all these wishes.
Dambhasura established his kingdom at a place called Shobhanam.
Shukracharya made him the king of all Asuras and told them to obey him.
After some time, the Asuras started instigating him to attack and conquer all the worlds.
He did that and became the emperor of all the worlds after defeating Indra and even Lord Shiva in battle.
He chased all the devas away into the forest.
He appointed his own deputies to administer all the worlds.
But then, just as Asuras do, he banned all the dharmik activities.
Dharmik activities strengthen the divine power and presence which is against their interest.
He banned yajnas.
Devas are nourished through yajnas.
Devas stopped getting food .
They went and complained to Brahma.
Brahma said: let us all worship and pray to Lord Gajanana.
They kept on worshiping him for hundred years. Suddenly one day, Lord Ganesha in his Vakratunda form seated on a lion with two consorts Siddhi and Buddhi appeared in Brahma's manomadala.
As Brahma was asking who he was, the Lord came out of Brahma's mind and stood in front of him.
The Lord said: I am your son.
I am your manasaputra.
You wanted me to take birth as your son.
I am here.
There was no limit to Brahma's happiness.
We will continue to see how the Lord tackled Dambhasura in the next episode.
