You look at a lotus stem.
It seems solid. Complete. Self-contained.
But when you break it open,
you find a thin thread running inside it.
Now the confusion begins.
You assume the thread exists inside the stem.
That the stem is holding it.
But that is only how it appears.
The verse is pointing to this exact mistake.
You look at your body.
At objects.
At the world.
And you think:
Consciousness is inside all this.
Inside the body.
Inside the brain.
That is the error.
Just like the thread is not created by the stem,
consciousness is not created by the body.
The body appears within consciousness.
But because the outer structure is visible,
and the inner reality is subtle,
you reverse it.
You think the container is primary.
This reversal is called भ्रम.
Not a small mistake.
A fundamental one.
Fix this,
and your entire understanding of existence flips.
You stop seeing yourself as something inside the world.
You begin to see the world as something appearing in you.
