Even though we broadly call it Atma (soul), 18 forms of Atma have been described in the Vedas.

- अव्ययात्मा – Avyayatma
- अक्षरात्मा – Aksharatma
- क्षरात्मा – Ksharatma
- शान्तात्मा – Shantatma
- महानात्मा – Mahanatma
- विज्ञानात्मा – Vijnanatma
- प्रज्ञानात्मा – Prajnanatma
- प्राणात्मा – Pranatma
- शारीरात्मा – Shariratma
- हंसात्मा – Hamsatma
- वैश्वानर अग्नि – Vaishvanara Agni
- तैजस वायुः – Taijasavayu
- कर्मात्मा (यज्ञात्मा) – Karmatma (Yajnatma)
- चिदाभास – Chidabhasa
- चिदात्मा – Chidatma
- श्री लक्षण – Shri Lakshana
