You will see Hanumanji being anointed with sindoor on Tuesday. Particularly in North India. What is behind this? This tradition is based on an incident. After the battle in Lanka and Ravana's elimination, all had returned to Ayodhya. Sri rama pattabhisheka took place. Seetha matha was still at Ayodhya. Once, on a Tuesday Hanumanji felt hungry. What is behind this?
This tradition is based on an incident.
After the battle in Lanka and Ravana's elimination, all had returned to Ayodhya.
Sri rama pattabhisheka took place.
Seetha matha was still at Ayodhya.
Once, on a Tuesday Hanumanji felt hungry.
He went looking for Seetha matha.
If a son is hungry he will look for the mother only, right?
Suddenly, Hanumanji noticed sindoor that Seetha matha had applied above the forehead between the parted hair.
He asked, mother what is this?
Matha said this is sindoor.
Why have you put it there?
It is for the long life of the Lord.
Hanumanji thought, just a pinch of sindoor for the lord's long life!
He got a better idea.
He applied sindoor all over his body and went to the court.
Seeing this everybody was in awe.
The Lord himself smiled and asked: what is this hanuman, what have done this for?
It is for your long life, Lord.
The Lord was so pleased and happy seeing the extent of Hanumanji's bhakti.
The Lord said, whoever anoints sindoor all over your body on Tuesdays, he will achieve all desires through my blessing.
The tradition is to make a paste of sindoor in jasmine oil and then apply it.
