The Strength of Friendship

असाधना वित्तहीना बुद्धिमन्तः सुहृन्मताः।
साधयन्त्याशु कार्याणि काककूर्ममृगाखुवत्॥

asaadhanaa vittaheenaa buddhimantah' suhri'nmataah'.
saadhayantyaashu kaaryaani kaakakoormamri'gaakhuvat..

It's simple meaning is this – even those who have no resources, no wealth, can accomplish the biggest tasks quickly if they possess wisdom and good friends, just like the crow, the tortoise, the deer and the mouse. This is not just advice. It is based on a living example. A beautiful story from the Panchatantra explains it.

In a forest lived four friends – a deer, a crow, a mouse and a tortoise. Their nature was different, their abilities were different, but their hearts were one. The deer could run fast, yet in danger he became helpless. The crow could see everything from above, but alone he could not do much. The mouse was small, yet his teeth had great strength. The tortoise was slow, but he was like a dependable home for all.

One day the deer got trapped in a hunter’s net. He struggled desperately. The crow saw this from the sky and immediately flew to inform the others. Everyone became anxious, yet no one ran away. The mouse said, do not worry, I will cut the ropes. He rushed there and began cutting the net with his sharp teeth.

Meanwhile they heard the sound of the hunter approaching. The tortoise said, deer, you run away, I will stay here and divert his attention. As soon as the deer was free, he fled into the forest. When the hunter arrived, he saw only the tortoise and tried to catch him. At that moment the crow created noise and confused the hunter. In the end all four friends escaped safely.

The deeper message of the verse
Through this story the meaning of the verse becomes clear.
First – wealth alone is not strength. These four had no possessions at all.
Second – wisdom is the greatest resource. The right idea at the right moment saves everything.
Third – true friends are the real treasure of life. Alone even the strong can lose, but together even the weak can win.
This truth applies to today’s life as well. A student rises not through money but through dedication and good companions. A small business becomes big because people work together. A family remains strong when everyone supports one another.

The formula for success
The verse teaches three lessons:
Do not lose courage when resources are few.
Consider wisdom as your greatest wealth.
Build good friendships and honour relationships.
The crow, the tortoise, the deer and the mouse remind us that victory in life is not created by noise but by cooperation. Where there is trust, even scarcity turns into opportunity.
