The Importance of Charity - According to Padma Purana

In the Padma Purana, charity is considered the greatest virtue. Offering food to a hungry person is an act of great merit. It is said that those who provide food to the needy always experience happiness and good fortune.

The importance of charity does not depend on the wealth of the donor. Even a person with limited means can perform acts of charity. They can earn merit by offering water, providing shelter, or helping others physically. Welcoming a guest with kind words, offering a place to rest, or giving them shade to sit under are also forms of charity.

One should perform acts of charity daily, according to their capacity. Charity is not limited to material things; it is also a feeling. Compassion and kind words are also considered forms of charity. These small acts of giving bring joy not only to the giver but also to the recipient.

According to the Padma Purana, a charitable person attains happiness in this world and peace in the afterlife. Charity is not just a duty but also a means to purify the soul.
