Wedding of Dasharatha and Kausalya

Brahma told Ravana that the son of Dasharatha and Kausalya would kill him. Once, Dasharatha was traveling through river Sarayu on a boat. His minister Sumantra was also with him. Ravana attacked and destroyed the boat. Dasharatha and Sumantra kept floating towards the sea on a plank from the debris of the boat. In the meantime, Ravana abducted Kausalya and kept her locked in a box on an island. Dasharatha and Sumantra reached that island. There, they found Kausalya locked up inside the box. She was released and gandharva vivaha between Dasharatha and Kausalya took place there.

Personal Integrity is the Foundation of Society

Personal corruption inevitably develops into widespread societal corruption. The timeless values of Sanatana Dharma—truth, non-violence, and self-restraint—are essential to maintaining a just and harmonious society. It is not enough to merely declare these virtues; they must be genuinely practiced at the individual level. When personal integrity is compromised, it creates a ripple effect, leading to the degradation of societal values. If we ignore the importance of personal integrity, society will face disastrous consequences. To protect and uplift society, every individual must embody these values and act with unwavering integrity.

There was a king called Chirayu.

In his court, there was a great physician- Nagarjuna, Ayurvedic physician.

He was a researcher.

Through his research, he once prepared a drug which could make one immortal.

If you take that drug, you will never die.

He took that drug himself and gave it to the king also.

They both became immortal.

But the ingredients of that drug were very rare and very expensive.

Somadeva was Nagarjuna’s son.

He died all of a sudden.

Nagrjuna was shattered.

He took it as a challenge upon himself that he would develop a drug and make everyone on earth immortal.

Nobody should die on this earth anymore.

He started doing research with herbs.

Herbs are common and they are inexpensive.

He was about to succeed.

The king of devas, Devendra came to know about what Nagarjuna was doing.

He became worried.

Only Devas in Swarga should be immortal.

That is the divine order.

Because, the Devas are noble by nature.

If they are immortal, then it is good for the world.

On earth, there are good people and bad people.

If everyone becomes immortal, then the bad people will soon overpower good people and then you know what would happen.

The whole world will come under the control of bad people and nobody will be able to destroy them.

This thought made Devendra really upset.

This should not happen.

There are two divine physicians called Ashwins.

They are the doctors of Swargaloka.

Devendra told them to go down to earth and reason with Nagarjuna, that he should not disturb the world order and allow evil to flourish.

They went and spoke to Nagarjuna.

Nagarjuna said about the untimely death of his son and that no father should suffer his grief anymore.

Ashwins tried to convince him.

But your son had been a very nice boy.

He was honest, obedient.

He prayed to God everyday.

He helped others.

Now, he is enjoying in Swarga.

He has all the comforts in Swarga, he is with us.

Nagarjuna was not convinced.

He continued with his research.

Ashiwns went back and reported to Devendra.

Now, Indra had to take the task upon himself.

He disguised himself as a man and went to the prince, the son of Chirayu.

See what that doctor has done.

He has made your father immortal.

Your father will never die and you will never become the king.

Since you are not immortal, you will die without becoming the king.

The prince asked him: what should I do?

As long as that doctor is alive, nothing can be done.

But he has a very strange habit.

If someone goes and asks him for anything when he is having food, he will give, no matter what it is.

So, you go to him and ask him for his head.

Accordingly, the prince went to Nagarjuna when he was having food.

I want something.

Yes, my lord, I will definitely give if I have it.

I want your head.

Yes, please, take it.

The prince cut Nagarjuna’s head with his sword.

The sword just bounced back because Nagarjuna was immortal.

But then, Nagarjuna had to keep his word.

He made some juice from herbs and applied it on the prince’s sword.

Now you please try again.

This time, Nagarjuna’s head was severed and it fell down on the ground.

But it was still alive.

The prince had only asked for the head, he never said Nagarjuna should die.

When the king heard about what happened, he came running.

He started shouting at his son.

Nagrjuna had by then realized that what he tried to do was not correct.

If he had made everyone on earth immortal, then soon earth would have turned into a very bad place.

Nagarjuna said: Oh! majesty, it is my fault.

I should not have tried this.

The prince is only an instrument in the hands of the divine power.

He did not act on his own.

It is all my fault.

But when the king realized that the prince was greedy to become the king, he decided to leave for the forest.

Nagarjuna also accompanied him.

The supreme power has created the world in a certain way and runs it in a certain way.

This is called divine order and it is quite balanced.

We should not try to disturb this balance.

We should do the duties assigned to us by God and contribute towards the well-being of everyone.
