We saw earlier the meaning of the mantra
Yaschandasamrushabho viswaroopaha.
In continuation of that, the next mantra is:
These are mantras in the academic context — prayers for intelligence and health.
May my body be fit for education, fit for receiving knowledge by being robust and healthy.
May my tongue be sweet, may what I speak be sweet.
May I not be harsh, may my words not hurt others.
May I get to hear a lot with my ears — all that would increase my knowledge.
Not just earnestness to learn, not just intelligence — access to knowledge is also important.
May I be blessed with such access to knowledge.
The mantra is addressed to Omkara, Pranava.
Kosha is sheath — the sword is kept inside the sheath; it rests inside the sheath.
In the same way, Brahma, brahmajnana is inside Omkara, rests inside Omkara, protected inside Omkara.
And that Omkara is मेधयाऽपिहितः — penetrated by, filled with intelligence.
All the intelligence of the entire universe rests in Omkara. Omkara supports the entire intelligence of the entire universe.
And Parameswara, whom that Omkara represents — may he protect whatever I hear, whatever I learn.
May I not forget what I learn.
