This story is from the Markandeya Purana.
Bhamini was the queen of King Avikshit and the mother of Marutta.
One day, the Nagas came to her in fear. Marutta, following the wishes of his grandmother Vira, had decided to wipe out the Naga vamsha. Many sages had died due to snake bites, which is why Vira had made such a request to him.
The Nagas pleaded with Bhamini for help. Without hesitation, she assured them of protection.
Bhamini went to King Avikshit and requested him to stop Marutta. Out of respect for the queen, the king agreed.
But Marutta refused to withdraw. He said it was his duty to punish those who harmed the sages — even if it meant going to war against his own father.
This meant a battle was about to take place between father and son.
Still, Bhamini stood firm in her position. She declared,
‘Even if I lose my husband, my son, or both, I will not abandon the helpless who trusted me.’
She placed justice above family peace.
In the end, Sage Bhrigu intervened. He instructed the Nagas to revive the sages who had died. With that, the crisis was resolved, and war was avoided.
But the one who truly saved everyone was Bhamini. Her sense of justice, confidence, and determination were her greatest strengths.
