Importance of Team Work

Chanakya says –
संगतिः श्रेयसो मूलं सुजनेषु विशेषतः
तुषमात्रे पृथग्भिन्ने तण्डुलं न प्ररोहति

Cooperation, working together is the way to success. Teamwork is very important. We say 'one man army' and all. But that’s an exception. Works in very few cases. If you want to achieve anything substantial, teamwork is essential.

Team with specific roles delegated. Team that works in unison and in synergy. Such a team achieves faster than just a few individuals working for something. The role of the team leader is to create this synergy. If you as a team leader can establish synergy within your team, then half your job is done.

So, this has to be a prime focus area — establishing synergy and goodwill within your team. Gone are the days of divide and rule. This is the time of working in unison with synergy. How do you do this? By recognizing certain facts and working accordingly. That’s what Chanakya says.

Take paddy. A grain of paddy has the potential to grow into a plant and yield rice. But if you remove its husk, it won’t germinate. That husk apparently has no value. It is something that you will normally remove and throw away if you are going to consume it as rice. But without that apparently valueless, worthless husk, it won’t germinate.

Every single person in a team is important. Involvement of every single person in a team is important. It may be the boy bringing tea and refreshments. But even that role is very important. There may be individuals who, by their talent of marketing themselves, are able to project themselves and show themselves to be the key persons. But the leader should not get carried away by this.

A single bolt or a single pin can lead an automobile into a breakdown or even an accident. The team leader should not forget this. So, it is not one or two important people who should get all the accolades in the team. Every single member should get due recognition and credit for his or her contribution.

Such teams work the best and will be successful. It is very important to learn such age-old principles followed by our elders and put them to work for the collective welfare of humanity.
