Keelaka Stotram

Keelaka Stotram

The Keelaka Stotram is the mystical key that unlocks the full power of the Durga Saptashati. Just like a treasure chest has a lock, the Mahatmya’s immense energy is sealed by divine design. This stotram, revealed by Shiva, removes that spiritual ‘keel’ or nail, ensuring that the recitation bears fruit. Without it, the full grace of Devi remains veiled. With it, devotees gain protection, prosperity, and even moksha — simply through heartfelt remembrance and recitation.

Verse 1

This mantra was revealed by Rishi Shiva, composed in the Anushtup meter, and dedicated to Devi Mahasarasvati. The purpose of chanting it is to please Jagadamba (the Universal Mother) and to serve as a vital limb (anga) of the Durga Saptashati recitation. It acts as the mystical key that unlocks the full potential of the Saptashati. The salutation, Om namashchandikayai, invokes Devi in her fierce and protective form — requesting her presence and grace before the great hymn begins.

Salutations to the One who is pure knowledge embodied,
whose vision spans the three Vedas,
who is the source of all auspiciousness,
and who bears the crescent moon on her crown.

This is the invocation — and it immediately shows that Devi is not a concept.
She is a living consciousness, an embodiment of śuddha-jñāna — the highest knowing.

She is the seer behind the seers.
She grants not just boons — but the means to rise to ultimate good.

Verse 2

Know that this is the keelaka, the lock — the secret switch behind all the mantras.
One who chants this with dedication will surely attain peace and well-being.

Here the Rishi reveals: the Saptashati is potent, but its power is veiled.
Without removing this 'keelakam' — the lock — the full blessing remains hidden.

Chant this first, and the energy awakens fully.

Verse 3

Even powerful acts like removal of obstacles, protection from enemies, and all siddhis —
they succeed when Devi is worshipped through these hymns, with devotion.

This verse declares that power lies in praise, not just in rituals.
Uccatana (dispelling evil), marana (ending afflictions), all karmas bow to bhakti.

It’s not about knowing magic.
It’s about knowing her.

Verse 4

For the one who chants Devi’s stotram,
no separate mantra or medicine is needed.
All outcomes — healing, victory, protection — arise from this alone.

This is Devi’s assurance —
She herself is the mantra, the medicine, the miracle.

The world runs to a thousand remedies.
But for her devotee, chanting is enough.

Verse 5

Shiva, knowing the doubts of the world,
revealed this keelaka to dissolve them.
He made the whole process auspicious and complete.

This verse reveals Mahadeva as the one who opened the gates.
He saw the hesitation in people — Can this really work?

And so, he gave this — to unlock faith, and remove all blocks.

Verse 6

This hymn of Chandika, Shiva kept hidden for long.
One who chants it properly receives its true power, and the full fruits of invocation.

Chanting without this is like knocking at a door that stays shut.
But with this, Devi herself opens it.

It’s the seed of access, the mantra that makes all other mantras blossom.

Verse 7

One who chants this on Krishna Chaturdashi or Ashtami, with a calm and focused mind,
attains complete protection — no doubt about it.

These timings are sacred thresholds —
nights when Devi’s shakti descends and listens.

This verse whispers: ‘Choose the time. Still the mind. Then call her. She comes.’

Verse 8

She gives and receives only when this lock is lifted.
Otherwise, her grace remains unseen.
This is the form in which Mahadeva bound the power — and how we must now unbind it.

This is the climax of the secret.
Even the kindest mother waits until the child opens his arms fully.

This keelakam is that gesture — that key of readiness.

Verse 9

One who removes this lock and then chants the Devi Mahatmya daily —
becomes siddha, divine, radiant like a gandharva — no doubt about it.

He is no longer ordinary.
His life begins to hum with the presence of Shakti.

This verse is a blessing and a promise:
‘Unbind, recite, become luminous.’

Verse 10

No misfortune touches him. No premature death claims him.
And when death does come — he attains liberation.

What more could one seek?

This stotra doesn’t just promise safety — it promises freedom.

She removes fear in life… and leads into light after death.

Verse 11

One must only begin this after knowing this secret.
For those who don’t — their efforts remain fruitless.
Thus, the wise never skip the keelaka.

This verse is simple but firm.

It says: Know first. Then act.
Without this step, even the sincere may walk in circles.

Verse 12

Whatever beauty, prosperity, or grace you see in women —
all of it is her prasada.
Therefore, this chant is most sacred.

This is a verse of recognition and reverence.

Wherever there is radiance, she is behind it.
So the chant is not just for gain, but in gratitude for what already shines.

Verse 13

Even when chanted slowly, this stotra brings abundance, elevation, and completeness.
So, one must indeed begin with it.

This is the encouragement verse —
Don’t rush. Don’t doubt. Don’t delay.

Even a gentle chant creates a mighty result.

Verse 14

Wealth, fortune, health, victory over enemies, and final liberation —
all come by her grace.
Is it not right then, that the world praises her?

This verse is almost rhetorical.

It says — just look at what she gives.
Why wouldn’t you chant her name? Why wouldn’t you tell the world?

Verse 15

One who remembers Chandika constantly from the heart,
attains his heart’s desire — for she takes residence in his heart.

This is the essence of devotion.
Not lips. Not ritual. Just a heart that remembers — again and again.

Such a person doesn’t worship Devi.
He lives with her.

Verse 16

Thus, before reading the Mahatmya,
one must first recite this Keelaka composed by Mahadeva.
Only then is the stotra to be read — with full focus and faith.

This is the final instruction
Recite this first. Unlock her grace. Then begin the journey.

Just like you knock before entering a temple —
this is the spiritual knock on Devi’s sanctum.
