Indra Mantra for Victory, Strength, and Protection
इन्द्र जुषस्व प्र वहा याहि शूर हरिभ्याम् ।
पिबा सुतस्य मतेरिह मधोश्चकानश्चारुर्मदाय ॥१॥
इन्द्र जठरं नव्यो न पृणस्व मधोर्दिवो न ।
अस्य सुतस्य स्वर्णोप त्वा मदाः सुवाचो अगुः ॥२॥
इन्द्रस्तुराषाण्मित्रो वृत्रं यो जघान यतीर्न ।
बिभेद वलं भृगुर्न ससहे शत्रून् मदे सोमस्य ॥३॥
आ त्वा विशन्तु सुतास इन्द्र पृणस्व कुक्षी विड्ढि शक्र धियेह्या नः ।
श्रुधी हवं गिरो मे जुषस्वेन्द्र स्वयुग्भिर्मत्स्वेह महे रणाय ॥४॥
इन्द्रस्य नु प्र वोचं वीर्याणि यानि चकार प्रथमानि वज्री ।
अहन्न् अहिमनु अपस्ततर्द प्र वक्षणा अभिनत्पर्वतानाम् ॥५॥
अहन्न् अहिं पर्वते शिश्रियाणं त्वष्टास्मै वज्रं स्वर्यं ततक्ष ।
वाश्रा इव धेनवः स्यन्दमाना अञ्जः समुद्रमव जग्मुरापः ॥६॥
वृषायमाणो अवृणीत सोमं त्रिकद्रुकेषु अपिबत्सुतस्य ।
आ सायकं मघवादत्त वज्रमहन्न् एनं प्रथमजामहीनाम् ॥७॥
इन्द्र जुषस्व प्र वहा याहि शूर हरिभ्याम् ।
पिबा सुतस्य मतेरिह मधोश्चकानश्चारुर्मदाय ॥१॥
Meaning:
'O mighty Indra, please accept our offering, come swiftly riding your two horses, and drink the sweet Soma we have prepared with devotion for your delight.'
इन्द्र जठरं नव्यो न पृणस्व मधोर्दिवो न ।
अस्य सुतस्य स्वर्णोप त्वा मदाः सुवाचो अगुः ॥२॥
Meaning:
'O Indra, fill your belly freshly like the sky filled with sweet rain; the exhilarating juices of this Soma have called out to you with their golden voice.'
इन्द्रस्तुराषाण्मित्रो वृत्रं यो जघान यतीर्न ।
बिभेद वलं भृगुर्न ससहे शत्रून् मदे सोमस्य ॥३॥
Meaning:
'Indra, the mighty friend, who crushed Vritra and broke open the hidden treasures like Bhrigu, could not be resisted by his enemies when empowered by Soma.'
आ त्वा विशन्तु सुतास इन्द्र पृणस्व कुक्षी विड्ढि शक्र धियेह्या नः ।
श्रुधी हवं गिरो मे जुषस्वेन्द्र स्वयुग्भिर्मत्स्वेह महे रणाय ॥४॥
Meaning:
'O Indra, let the Soma offerings enter you, fill your belly, come to us with your strength, hear our prayers, and be pleased — stand by us for a mighty battle.'
इन्द्रस्य नु प्र वोचं वीर्याणि यानि चकार प्रथमानि वज्री ।
अहन्न् अहिमनु अपस्ततर्द प्र वक्षणा अभिनत्पर्वतानाम् ॥५॥
Meaning:
'Let me now declare Indra's mighty deeds — how the thunder-wielder slew the serpent, released the waters, and smashed apart the mountains.'
अहन्न् अहिं पर्वते शिश्रियाणं त्वष्टास्मै वज्रं स्वर्यं ततक्ष ।
वाश्रा इव धेनवः स्यन्दमाना अञ्जः समुद्रमव जग्मुरापः ॥६॥
Meaning:
'Indra killed the serpent hiding in the mountain; Tvashta had fashioned the resounding thunderbolt for him; then the flowing waters rushed like eager cows straight into the ocean.'
वृषायमाणो अवृणीत सोमं त्रिकद्रुकेषु अपिबत्सुतस्य ।
आ सायकं मघवादत्त वज्रमहन्न् एनं प्रथमजामहीनाम् ॥७॥
Meaning:
'Filled with power, Indra chose Soma and drank it among the Trikadrukas; then he took the thunderbolt, hurled it like an arrow, and slew the first-born of the mighty beings.'
