How Valmiki Maharshi Learned About Lord Rama's Life

What is it that Valmiki is about to do?
Write about someone who never deviated from dharma.
He is going to write a book which will be a ready reference whenever you are in confusion about what to do.

There is a method that used to be very commonly practised.
If you are confused about anything — what to do — open any page of Ramayana randomly.
Your answer will be there.

Your answer will be there provided you are committed that you will follow that answer.
If you are just checking what is in there, whether this method works, then it may not work.
But if you promise that 'I will follow strictly as per what Ramayana tells me,' then it works 100%.

But if you don’t know how to interpret Ramayana, then you should not do this yourself.
You can go to a well-learned person — he would do it for you.
I don’t know whether this practice is still there.
Maybe in interior villages it is still practised.
I don’t know for sure.

But here, the method is different.
You have to understand the real meaning of Ramayana, and whenever you are in doubt about what to do in any situation in your life, then you can use Ramayana as a reference.
Rama would have faced a similar situation in his life also.
You can do what he did then.
That would be the right thing to do.

For Valmiki, this is not just writing a book.
For him, it is a completely divine act.

Narada Maharshi came and gave him Lord Rama's story in 100 verses.
Then Brahma Deva himself came and blessed him and told him:
'You are doing my work.
It is my words, my shakti, Saraswati, that will manifest through you.'

So, this is not something casual like writing any other book.
Valmiki Maharshi was clearly aware of the nature of the task he was about to do.

Because Valmiki Maharshi did achamana, did pranama — whoever needs to be offered pranama, like his guru, the devatas — then sat on darbha with their tips facing east.
See the extent of awareness of what he is about.
It is not like he just sat on his asana and started thinking or writing.
He sat on darbha with tips facing the east — that much attention to detail.

So when you see something in Ramayana, you can be amply clear and sure that it will be 100% authentic and genuine.
It will not be just opinion.
It will be 100% true.

Now, Narada had given the story to him in 100 verses.
Now this will get expanded to 24,000 verses.

But who is doing the real work now?
As Brahma Deva said, he has taken over Valmiki’s body, mind — everything.

Now Valmiki Maharshi goes into yoga bhava.
What happens in yoga bhava?
His mind becomes absolutely still.
There is nothing in his mind — no thoughts, no memory.
Even what Narada told him is not there.
It is absolutely still — blank.

Then he is able to see everything.

What all?

Lord Rama and all those with him —
how they laughed, what they spoke, where all they went, what all they did.
Everything started playing like a movie in front of him.
He only has to watch it and document it.

Who is showing this to Valmiki?
Brahma — the omniscient Brahma.
Dharma veerya — this is the power of Brahma.

Yathavat — 100% truth, just as everything happened.
They became visible to Valmiki Maharshi.

That's why Ramayana is Itihasa — history, our real history, our real past.
