How to increase Bhakti?

How to increase Bhakti?

Bhakti arises in the heart only through past punya and the grace of Bhagavan. But there are many ways we can nourish and grow it through our own effort:

  • Satsang – Spending time with devotees who are wise, kind-hearted, and spiritually inclined increases our own bhakti. Their presence naturally uplifts us.
  • Shraddha – Worshipping Bhagavan with focused attention, not mechanically or carelessly, deepens bhakti. Every moment of worship should be mindful and heartfelt.
  • Avoid harming anyone – Maintaining a friendly and compassionate attitude towards all beings, and staying away from thoughts or acts of violence, supports the growth of bhakti.
  • Danam and generosity – Sharing what we have with others, even in small ways, makes the heart soft and open. Bhakti grows in such a heart.
  • Brahmacharya – Practicing self-control, especially in thought and action, brings inner purity, which in turn strengthens bhakti.
  • Removal of the six inner enemies – Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada, Matsarya — when these are weakened or removed, bhakti becomes steady and pure.

Bhakti is like a small plant. It may be born by grace, but if we don’t water it daily with the right values and practices, it won’t grow. Keep feeding it with the above — it will one day bloom into divine love.
