Shloka:

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुस्साक्षात्‌ परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ।।

gurur brahma gurur vishnuh, gurur devo maheshvarah.

guruhsakshat parabrahma tasmai shri gurave namah..

 

Combined meaning:

Guru is himself the creator (Brahma), he is himself the protector (Vishnu), he himself ends the universe as Maheshwara. He is himself the supreme power and truth.. I bow to my Guru.

गुरुः (guruh) – the Guru, the spiritual teacher

ब्रह्मा (brahma) – Brahma, the creator

  • Deva - the divine being, because the Guru radiates divine light and guides the student toward truth.
  • Sakshat Param Brahman - the direct Supreme Reality, because the Guru reveals and represents the highest absolute truth
  • The visible form of Bhagavan, because through the Guru, the student can experience and understand the Supreme
  • The guide who leads from ignorance to knowledge, from limitation to inner freedom
