We are talking about पवित्राणां पवित्रम् — Sri Hari’s power to purify and remove sins.
You bow your head before him a little, before that Lord of the three worlds. His power doesn’t have a competition. Bow before him — even sins coming from thousands of kalpas. Sin you may have committed before a thousand kalpas — a kalpa is 4.32 billion years, 1000 such kalpas.
Even a sin committed before thousands of billions of years will come back to you to give its result in the form of misery or trouble. That is the rule of karma. There is only one solution: bow your head before Sri Hari. Sin chasing you through thousands of billions of years is the rule, and Sri Hari removing it when you bow down before him is the exception.
This exception is not available to everyone — only to his true devotees.
एकोऽपि कृष्णस्य कृतः प्रणामो दशाश्वमेधावभृथेन तुल्यः
दशाश्वमेधी पुनरेति जन्म कृष्णप्रणामी न पुनर्भवाय
There is something called अवभृथस्नानम् — the ceremonial bathing performed at the end of Ashwamedha, which is a great purifier. One pranama to Krishna is equivalent to ten such avabhritha snanas.
There is a difference — one who has performed ten Ashwamedhas and taken ten avabhrita snanas still has to take rebirth. But not the Krishna-pranamee — the devotee of Krishna who has bowed his head before him.
अतसी पुष्पसंकाशं पीतवाससमच्युतम्
ये नमस्यन्ति गोविन्दं न तेषां विद्यते भयम्
There is a plant called अतसी, called अलसी or तीसी in Hindi — flax in English, from which you get flax seeds. The flower of that plant is blue in color. His color is that of अतसी पुष्पम्. His clothes are yellow in color.
Those who offer namaskaras to Achyuta, who is of the color of atasee pushpa and whose clothes are yellow — they do not fear anymore. They don’t fear anything. They are not afraid of anyone.
शाठ्येनापि नमस्कारः प्रयुक्तश्चक्रपाणये
संसारस्थूलबन्धानामुद्वेजनकरो हि सः
The namaskara is hypocrisy — just a show, or because others are doing it — 'let me also do', without true devotion. Still, it will cut off all the bondage of samsara, worldly delusion.
So that is the power of Bhagawan Vishnu as the ultimate purifier, remover of sins — पवित्राणां पवित्रम्.
Now मंगलानां मंगलम्:
मंगलम् — सुखम्, तत्साधनं, तज्ज्ञापकं च — whatever gives pleasure, happiness, comfort is mangalam.
मंगलानां मंगलम् — the most pleasure-giving, the most happiness-giving, and the most comfort-giving among all that give pleasure, happiness, and comfort.
दैवतं देवतानाम् —
देवानां देवः — God of gods.
भूतानां यः अव्ययः पिता — among all beings, the imperishable creator, father of all beings.
What is the meaning of pita?
पाति रक्षत्यपत्यं यः — one who protects his child. Pita means protector.
Meaning — Sri Hari, who alone fits all these descriptions. He is the one and only God in the world.
