साक्षी –
The observer, witness.
साक्षादव्यवधानेन स्वरूपबोधेन ईक्षते पश्यति सर्वमिति साक्षी।
He observes everything, without any hindrance, break, and with his own cognition.
He is inside every being as the observer of all actions, so that he can give their results accordingly.
How does a court decide whether to give punishment or acquit an accused?
Depending on the statements of the witness.
Without witness, the judge will not know what actually happened.
Without witness, a judgement will not be possible.
That is why the judge says, there are no eyewitnesses, so the case is dismissed.
The witness is not reliable, so the case is dismissed.
He is the witness who sits inside every being.
He won't have to depend on an external witness.
He himself is the judge, he himself is the witness.
So there is no failure in his judgement.
There is nothing that goes unnoticed by him.
He is like your boss in office — he keeps on observing your every action, because he has to review your performance.
He has to decide whether to give you a promotion, make you stagnate, or even give you a demotion.
You may cheat the tax man.
You may lie, nobody may find out.
But you can’t do that with him.
Because he is inside you — always watching you, always witnessing you.
Nothing escapes his observation.
एवं तानानन्दयन् स्वयमपि तृप्यन् तान् साक्षात्करोति इति साक्षी।
By giving his devotees ananda, and deriving happiness out of this, he makes them achieve sakshatkara.
Sakshatkara means they achieve him, they become him — he causes sakshatkara, hence called sakshi.
If the divine witnesses everything, is any deed truly hidden?
No. Every thought, word, and action is known to the inner witness. Physical privacy exists; moral secrecy does not.
Does being observed cancel free will?
No. You are free to choose. Observation only ensures precise consequences for choices.
If Bhagavan sees all, why does suffering exist?
Actions create results that unfold in time. The witness guarantees justice, not instant outcomes.
What matters more: intention or action?
Both matter. Intention carries heavy weight because the witness knows motives, not just behavior.
Can ritual or donations balance out wrongs?
No. Only honest repentance, restitution, and changed conduct clean the slate. Ritual supports that inner shift.
Will cleverness or silence hide the truth?
No. The witness is your very awareness. Nothing can be concealed from the knower within.
Should constant observation make me fearful?
It should make you sincere and bold. Live transparently and fear fades.
How is karma ‘recorded’ without a ledger?
Impressions form in the mind by your choices. The witness ensures those impressions ripen into just results.
What about mistakes done in ignorance?
Responsibility scales with knowledge and freedom. Ignorance reduces blame, but learning and correction are still required.
Why pray if everything is already known?
Prayer aligns your will with dharma, strengthens resolve, and opens you to grace. It changes you.
How can I work with the inner witness daily?
Do a brief self-audit, speak truth, fulfill duty, and meditate. Ask: ‘Would I place this action before the witness?’
