यदीशानो ब्रह्मणावेशिमे हवम् ।
स इज्जनेन स विशा स जन्मना ।
सपुत्रैर्वाजं भरते धनानृभिः ।
देवानां यः पितरमाविवासति ।
श्रद्धामना हविषा ब्रह्मणस्पतिम् ।

Meaning:

ॐ ब्रह्मणस्पते त्वमस्य यन्ता ।

सूक्तस्य बोधि तनयं जजिन्व ।

विश्वन्तद्भद्रं यदवन्ति देवाः ।

बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ।

O Lord of Speech, you guide this hymn. Grant us prosperity. May the gods bless us with good fortune. Let us speak with great strength and wisdom.

ॐ (Om) - The sacred sound, ब्रह्मणस्पते (Brahmanaspate) - Lord of Speech, त्वम् (tvam) - you, अस्य (asya) - of this, यन्ता (yantaa) - guide, सूक्तस्य (sooktasya) - hymn, बोधि (bodhi) - understand, तनयं (tanayam) - son, जजिन्व (jajinva) - praised, विश्वन्तद्भद्रं (vishvantadbhaadram) - all blessings, यदवन्ति (yadavanti) - give, देवाः (devaah) - gods, बृहद्वदेम (brihadvadema) - let us speak greatly, विदथे (vidathe) - in assembly, सुवीराः (suveeraah) - with heroic men

स ईँ सत्येभिस्सखिभिश्शुचद्भिः ।

He, with truthful, pure, and friendly beings, drives away evil with his divine strength.

स (sa) - He, ईँ (eem) - indeed, सत्येभिः (satyeibhih) - with truthful ones, सखिभिः (sakhibhih) - with friends, शुचद्भिः (shuchadbhi) - with pure ones

गोधायसं विधनसैरतर्दत् ।

He destroys the enemies with golden wealth and abundant provisions.

गोधायसं (godhaayasam) - golden wealth, विधनसैः (vidhanasaih) - with provisions, अतर्दत् (atardat) - destroys

ब्रह्मणस्पतिर्वृषभिर्वराहैः ।

The Lord of Speech, with powerful bulls and boars, provides wealth.

ब्रह्मणस्पतिः (Brahmanaspate) - Lord of Speech, वृषभिः (vrishabhih) - with bulls, वराहैः (varaahaih) - with boars

घर्मस्वेदेभिर्द्रविणं व्यानट् ।

He, with the heat of the sun and his own sweat, disperses wealth.

घर्मस्वेदेभिः (gharmaswedebhih) - with the heat of the sun and sweat, द्रविणं (dravinam) - wealth, व्यानट् (vyanat) - disperses

ब्रह्मणस्पतेरभवद्यथा वशम् ।

Everything comes under the control of the Lord of Speech.

ब्रह्मणस्पतेः (Brahmanaspateh) - of the Lord of Speech, अभवत् (abhavat) - comes, यथा (yathaa) - as, वशम् (vasham) - control

सत्यो मन्युर्महिकर्मा करिष्यतः ।

True anger will accomplish great deeds.

सत्यः (satyah) - true, मन्युः (manyuh) - anger, महिकर्मा (mahikarmaa) - great deeds, करिष्यतः (karishyatah) - will accomplish

योगा उदाजथ्सनदिवे विचाभजत् ।

Allies will rise up, severing enemies in the divine assembly.

योगाः (yogaah) - allies, उदाजथ् (udaajath) - will rise, सनदिवे (sanadive) - in the divine assembly, विचाभजत् (vicaabhajat) - severing

महीवरीतिः शवसासरत् पृथक् ।

The mighty protector, with strength, separates foes.

महीवरीतिः (maheeveritih) - mighty protector, शवसा (shavasa) - with strength, सरत् (sarat) - separates, पृथक् (prithak) - foes

इन्धानो अग्निं वनवद्वनुष्यतः ।

Like a forest burns with fire, he consumes his enemies.

इन्धानः (indhaanah) - fire, अग्निम् (agnim) - fire, वनवत् (vanavat) - like a forest, वनुष्यतः (vanushyatah) - consumes enemies

कृतब्रह्माशूशुवद्रातहव्य इत् ।

He, who has created sacred hymns, receives offerings with joy.

कृतब्रह्मा (kritabrahmaa) - creator of hymns, शूशुवत् (shooshuvat) - receives, रातहव्यः (raatahavyah) - offerings, इत् (it) - with joy

जातेन जातमति सृत्प्रसृँसते ।

Born of the born, he continuously advances.

जातेन (jaatena) - born of, जातम् (jaatam) - the born, अतिसृत् (atisrit) - continuously, प्रसृँसते (prasrsate) - advances

यं यं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः ।

Whomsoever the Lord of Speech unites, they become victorious.

यं (yam) - whom, यं (yam) - whom, युजं (yujam) - unites, कृणुते (krinute) - unites, ब्रह्मणस्पतिः (Brahmanaspateh) - Lord of Speech

ब्रह्मणस्पते सुयमस्य विश्वहा ।

O Lord of Speech, you conquer the whole world with good control.

ब्रह्मणस्पते (Brahmanaspate) - Lord of Speech, सुयमस्य (suyamasya) - with good control, विश्वहा (vishvaha) - conqueror of the world

रायस्स्याम रथ्यो विवस्वतः ।

Let us be blessed with the wealth of the radiant sun.

रायः (rayah) - wealth, स्याम (syaama) - let us be, रथ्यः (rathyah) - chariot, विवस्वतः (vivasvatah) - radiant sun

वीरेषु वीराँ उपपृङ्धिनस्त्वम् ।

Among the heroes, you make us powerful.

वीरेषु (veereshu) - among heroes, वीरान् (veeraan) - heroes, उपपृङ्धि (upaprindhi) - make powerful, नः (nah) - us, त्वम् (tvam) - you

यदीशानो ब्रह्मणावेशिमे हवम् ।

O powerful one, you accept our oblations in the sacrificial fire.

यद् (yad) - if, ईशानः (eeshanah) - powerful one, ब्रह्मणा (brahmanaa) - with the sacred hymns, अवेशिमे (aveshime) - accept, हवम् (havam) - oblations

स इज्जनेन स विशा स जन्मना ।

He is with people, with the community, and by birth.

सः (sah) - he, इज्जनेन (ijanena) - with people, सः (sah) - with, विशा (vishaa) - community, सः (sah) - by, जन्मना (janmanaa) - birth

सपुत्रैर्वाजं भरते धनानृभिः ।

He, along with his sons, brings wealth through heroic deeds.

सपुत्रैः (saputraih) - with sons, वाजं (vaajam) - wealth, भरते (bharate) - brings, धनानृभिः (dhananribhih) - through heroic deeds

देवानां यः पितरमाविवासति ।

He, who invites the father of the gods.

देवानाम् (devaanam) - of the gods, यः (yah) - who, पितरम् (pitaram) - father, आविवासति (aavivaasati) - invites

श्रद्धामना हविषा ब्रह्मणस्पतिम् ।

With faith and offerings, we invoke the Lord of Speech.

श्रद्धामना (shraddhaamanaa) - with faith, हविषा (havishaa) - with offerings, ब्रह्मणस्पतिम् (Brahmanaspate) - Lord of Speech
