This profile is small for someone like you, so we can’t give it to you.
This is common sense.
Our elders said:
स्थानेष्वेव नियोक्तव्या भृत्याश्चाभरणानि च
न हि चूडामणिः पादे प्रभवामीति बध्यते
Ornaments or employees — they should be at the right place where they belong.
Chudamani is an ornament meant for the head. Just because you think you are great, you don’t wear it around your ankle or on your feet.
You may think that you are great, your organization is big, great — still, employees should be at the right place.
I have come across some cases. A big corporate, a management professional, doing well. Very good, very efficient. The promoter wanted him as his private secretary. True, the promoter has so many things to manage, they should be managed efficiently. So he took him in as her private secretary with a hike in salary.
But this man was unsatisfied from day one. He was a VP. The designation is the same, but he became a private secretary. In his own eyes, it was not looking good.
I am not saying that being a private secretary is anything inferior. But there are people who train themselves for it, look out to become a private secretary.
This man wanted to be a manager, he studied for that, all this while he has been doing that.
Suddenly you make him a private secretary, booking air tickets, fixing appointments. For the boss.
He quit in some time.
Always keep an employee where he belongs.
असमैः समीयमानः समैश्च परिहीयमाणसत्कारः
धुरि यो न युज्यमानस्त्रिभिरर्थपतिं त्यजति भृत्यः
Three situations — the employee becomes unsatisfied and looks for an opportunity to quit.
If you put him among unequals — put him in a position where his peers are not equal to him in qualification and experience. असमैः समीयमानः
If you keep him away from his equals — he knows that all others who came from his institution were put in another department or function. He alone was put elsewhere, in the back office or something like that. समैः परिहीयमाणसत्कारः
The third, you don’t give him any serious work, someone who is benched. He would be insecure that if he doesn’t show performance, his value would depreciate as time goes. So not just putting him in the right place — giving work that would add value to his profile is also important. धुरि यो न युज्यमान
It is not just the designation and the package — they need to tell others, this is the kind of challenging work that I am doing. That kind of work should be given to him.
Who is to be blamed when a wrong person has been assigned to a job or a person has been assigned to a wrong job?
कनकभूषणसंगरहणोचितो यदि मणिस्त्रपुणि प्रतिबध्यते
न स विरौति न चापि स शोभते भवति योजयितुर्वचनीयता

The solitaire may not cry out loud — but the onlooker will condemn, scorn at the ornament maker for his lack of sense.
यच्च अविवेकितया राजा भृत्यानुत्तमपदयोग्यान् हीनाधमस्थाने नियोजयति न ते तत्रैव तिष्ठन्ति स भूपतेर्दोषो न तेषां
So if you assign an employee to a job below his qualification, experience, skill set, and dignity, he will not stay. This is not his fault. This is the boss’s fault.
