The sena of Matsarasura, under the command of Virochana, conquered Patala. The Nagas started paying taxes to the Asuras.
Then they moved towards Varuna Loka.
When Varuna heard about the imminent attack by the Asuras, he mounted the crocodile and came to fight off the Asuras with his army of Yadas – Yada means water animals. Varuna is called Yadasam Pati. He is the lord of water animals. Varuna Loka is Samudra.
A fierce fight started between the Asuras and the army of Varuna. Virochana brought in Mahishasura, Shumbha, and Andhakasura to the battleground. The battle continued for three days. There was severe damage to the Asura side. Most of them died or were severely wounded.
But Shukracharya, with his tapah shakti, revived all of them, and they again started fighting Varuna and his army. The fight continued for one more day, at the end of which Varuna was held captive by Virochana.
One should remember that behind all this is tapah shakti. Matsarasura became all-powerful through tapas. Here, the Asura sena was wiped out by Varuna but revived by Shukracharya again through tapah shakti. One should remember this—what sadhana can give. They used it for the wrong purpose, that is different.
After defeating Varuna and taking control of Varuna Loka, the Asura sena proceeded towards Alakapuri, the world of Kubera. When Kubera heard that even Varuna was defeated, he didn’t find any hope for himself. He left Alakapuri with his retinue and took refuge in Kailasa. Thus, the Asuras conquered Alakapuri, the Kubera Loka, Yaksha Loka.
Then they moved towards Yamaloka. Yamaraja came mounted on his buffalo along with a fierce army comprising all kinds of diseases and death itself. Initially, they inflicted severe damage upon the Asura sena.
But then, Vishaya Priya, Matsarasura’s son, came to the battlefield. He started raining weapons upon the sena of Yamaraja, and they started running helter-skelter. The Mahisha fainted upon being hit by Vishaya Priya.
Yamaraja took out his most lethal weapon – Kaladanda – and employed it on Vishaya Priya. It just went up to Vishaya Priya and returned. Kaladanda got scared and returned. It didn’t touch Vishaya Priya. Yamaraja was tied up, and they took him along towards Swarga to attack Swarga.
A fierce battle ensued between the Devas and Asuras. Agni, Vayu, Surya, Chandra, the eight Vasus, Rudras, all the Adityas—they all fought the Asura sena. Streams of blood started flowing. Both sides suffered losses.
Then Indra attacked Vishaya Priya and wounded him severely. At that time, the elder son of Matsarasura, Sundarapriya, joined the battle. Upon being attacked by him, Airavata fell down. After a fierce battle with Indra, Sundarapriya held Indra captive.
Swarga was conquered. Matsarasura became the ruler of Swarga also.
