Story of Rama Navami

Once Sri Rama, Seetha Devi, and Lakshmana were passing through a forest.

Seetha Devi and Lakshmana became tired.

They decided to rest for a while and found a hut nearby.

An old woman welcomed them and offered them food.

Sri Rama said - we will take food only after you feed pearls to our swan.

She was a poor woman; where will she get pearls from?

She went to the king and asked him whether he would lend her some pearls.

The king thought - this old woman doesn’t even have money for food; how will she ever repay me?

Anyway, the king gave her a fistful of pearls.

She went back and fed the swan.

After that, her guests also took food and slept there overnight.

The next morning, as they were leaving, Sri Rama planted a tree in front of the old woman’s house.

It grew big day by day.

Even though at first she didn’t notice, the old woman realized that pearls were growing on the tree.

Her neighbors came to gather the pearls that were falling to the ground.

The old woman took a bag full of pearls and gave it to the king.

When he asked where she got them from, the old woman told the king about the tree.

The king became greedy.

He asked her to give the tree to him.

The old woman said - I don’t need it; you can take it if you want.

The king brought the tree and planted it in front of his palace.

In place of pearls, thorns started appearing on the tree.

The thorns ripped the clothes of those who came to the palace.

One day, a thorn stuck into the foot of the queen and she was badly in pain.

The king decided to send back the tree to the old woman.

As soon as the tree was replanted in front of the old woman’s house, pearls again appeared on it.
